SHI ASG Solutions Consultant - Cloud Optimization in Helena, Montana

Job Summary

The Cloud Optimization/FinOps Solutions Consultantis responsible forthe development and delivery of public cloud and hybrid optimization and FinOps consulting services to customers of varying sizes across multiple industries. This is a customer-facing role with significant interaction with both technical and non-technical resources. Typical responsibilities for the solutions consultant include development of models for FinOps analysis and reporting, presales engagements, enablement, and data analysis and recommendations.A successful candidate in this role willdemonstratean extensive understanding ofpublic cloud and Hybrid resources, critical thinking, data analysis, andproficiencyof the FinOps Framework – Principles, Personas, Phases, Maturity Model, Domains, & Capabilities. Our customers are current and prospective paying customers, partners, and SHI internal teams. 

Daily activitiesinclude:assistingcustomers with cost optimization strategies, use of FinOps platforms, use of cloud native tooling, building complex analysis and reporting in Excel, implementing automaton, project management, technical and financial analysis,customerand internal meetings, and mentoring andassistingteammates.  

This position is a remotepositionhowevermay be required to report to SHI locations as required for business needs as determined by SHI leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead technical delivery resource and subject matter expert on FinOpscustomerprojects, collaborating with others,facilitatecustomer meetings,and being accountable for the outcome of the project 

  • Assistsales team inidentifying, scoping, and closing opportunities,leveragingresearch, customer meetings, reporting, presentations, and delivery of FinOps services  

  • Delivery of FinOps services - spend visibility, cost allocation, shared cost, charge back/show back, forecasting, budgeting,data analysis,resource utilization & efficiency, resource optimization, reporting data and recommendations, measuring unit costs, commitment-based discounts, cloud cost governance, anomaly detection, automation, and FinOps education & enablement of AWS, Azure, GCP, hybrid, and other public cloud environments 

  • Research, development, implementation, and troubleshooting of novel and creative strategies for cloud optimization and cloud governance  

  • Develop relevant automation, documentation, processes, and standardization of FinOps solutions and culture within both customers’ organizations and SHI

  • Build and expand FinOps culture, both within customers’ organizations and within SHI 

  • Document services and interventions provided to customers and report timeutilizationdaily 

  • Professional development – continually learn and grow, balancing individual goals and the needs of the team  

  • Meet established productivityandmaintainavailability and responsiveness during the workday

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of technical, financial, data analytic, or technical presales experience with increasing responsibility 

  • Minimum of 2 years intensive experience using Microsoft Excel to organize, analyze, and report large data sets 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computing, finance, data analytics, engineering, or a related field 

  • Experience with industry leading Cloud Optimization tools 

  • 1-year Professional FinOps experience preferred 

  • Experience with Cloud Computing: virtualization technologies, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, Public Cloud and Hybrid delivery models and the current competitive landscape 

  • Core understanding of Cloud and Hybrid infrastructure (compute, storage, databases, networking, load balancers, hypervisor, security etc.), best practices, governance, monitoring, alerting, automation, and the well-architected framework 

Required Skills

  • Consultants need a solid understanding of AWS, Azure, and/or GCP infrastructure and services, the FinOps Framework and practices, and exceptional analytical skills 

  • Abilitytoprovideexplanation and application of public cloud and hybrid cost models, basic FinOps vocabulary, concepts, processes, and basic financial and accounting knowledge 

  • Proficiencyin public cloud technical resources, environments, architecture, and administration of each 

  • Advanced Excel knowledge and experience -proficiencywith sophisticated formulas, pivot tables, automation, and complex reporting 

  • Innate curiosity and a desire to solve puzzles in the FinOps space is critical 

  • Learns difficult information and concepts quickly and seeks out knowledge independently 

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills 

  • Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting,and analytical skills 

  • Dexterity to work effectively within all levels of an organization, both internally and externally, across verticals 

  • Aptitude to work both individually and in a team environment 

  • Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills, with mastery of presenting ideas in a clear, concise manner to technical, non-technical, and C-level audiences 

  • Effective writing skills to produce written reports of recommendations, metrics, project management,processand technical documentation, as well as written communication with customers, partners, and internal teams 

  • High level reading comprehension to examine documentation, technical reports, and industry research to keep up with advances and implement current practices and technology that meets SHI’s or customer’s needs

  • Preferred skills-PowerShell, Python, Terraform, SQL, and Kubernetes  

Certifications Required

  • At least one of the following: AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), GCP Cloud Digital Leader, or FinOps Certified Practitioner 

Preferred Certifications: * *

  • An Associate Level Certification or higher in AWS, Azure, or GCP is preferred prior to hiring and required by day 90 as a requirement of role 

  • Qualifying Certifications are as follows: 

  • AWS – AWS Solution Architect – Associate, AWS Developer – Associate, AWSSysOpsAdministrator – Associate, or AWS Solution Architect – Professional 

  • Azure – Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ104), Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204), or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) 

  • GCP – Cloud Engineer-Associate, Cloud Architect-Professional, or Cloud Developer-Professional  

  • Cloud Optimization Consultants will obtain dual-cloud associate level certification and FinOps Practitioner certification within 1-year in role 

  • VMware Aria Cost Powered byCloudHealthAdministrator Certification within 90-days in role 

Unique Requirements

  • Travel to client sites, up to 10% 

Additional Information

  • The estimated annual pay range for this position is $80,000 - $135,000 which includes a base salary and bonus. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
