Do you have experience working with a variety of legal issues that involve substantive law related to professional and occupational licensing as well as federal and state statutes, common law, and administrative rules? Then it is time for you to join our team as our next Lawyer for Department of Labor and Industry! The successful applicant for this position will serve as Agency Counsel representing DLI and professional licensing boards. Duties include: * Representing DLI and professional licensing boards during all stages of administrative proceedings including board disciplinary and adjudication panels, contested case hearings, injunctive actions, district court judicial review, and Montana Supreme Court appellate review. * Representing DLI in employment disputes, including wage and hour, prevailing wage, workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance, and human rights. * Drafting legislation and administrative rules. If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities on the first day of work: * Exemplary written, verbal, and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and work successfully with courts, legal colleagues, Department staff, board members, legislators, and Montana citizens; * Demonstrated aptitude for identifying, researching, and analyzing complex legal issues, and directing a course of action to resolve problems; * Working knowledge of administrative, litigation, and legislative procedures; state and federal statutes, regulations, case law, and constitutional provisions pertinent to the Department’s mission and duties; * Sound judgment in advising regulatory boards to ensure fair and safe delivery of professional services without imposing unfair and unnecessary burdens on Montana’s professional workforce. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * This position requires a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and admittance to the Montana Bar and Federal District Courts. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered on a case-by-case basis. How would you let us know that you’re the right person?
