Summary of Position
We are seeking a Career Specialist to join our team within the SANS Technology Institute business unit. The Career Specialist is responsible for managing and coaching a caseload of SANS.edu and SANS Cyber Immersion Academy students and alumni as they pursue individual career goals, inclusive of career path, professional development, and job search processes. The placement specialist will support the development and maintenance of the career student resources in the technology platforms, including but not limited to Handshake, Canvas, and Salesforce. The placement specialist will perform administrative tasks involved with managing student and alumni career records as well as employer partner relationship records. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Career Services.
Key Responsibilities
· Counsel and advise students in SANS.edu accredited undergraduate and workforce programs on best practices in a cybersecurity job search, inclusive of: career path and opportunities, resume review, job search and application strategies, interviewing, networking, and hiring processes.
· Identify and communicate appropriate opportunities for students with existing employer partners.
· Track assistance and placement metrics, per both internal and NACE First Destination Survey guidelines, to aid in reporting and refinement of existing processes.
· Lead workshops, office hours, and/or recorded presentations on cybersecurity career search related topics (resume tips, overcoming imposter syndrome, application tracking, etc).
· Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree required
· Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience, preferably in higher education career support
· Experience in a customer service role
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Outstanding interpersonal skills
· Strong organizational and time management skills
· Proven problem-solving abilities
· Adept with using software systems and willing to learn new products and technologies
· Ability and confidence to work independently using sound judgment, as well as a commitment to working as part of a team
· Desire and ability to learn about the field of cybersecurity in a non-technical capacity
Preferred Qualifications
· Master’s degree preferred
· Experience with career services, alumni relations, or recruiting, ideally in a technology related discipline
· Experience with Canvas and Salesforce, or other higher education platforms
Reporting Relationships
This position report to the Assistant Director of Career Services and has no direct reports.
Work Environment
Remote work environment. Travel required up to twice a year for in person meetings.

The base salary range for this position is between $55,000 and $60,000. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location and relevant experience, education, certifications, and years of experience. There is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.
