This position may be covered by a Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association (VEBA) *JOB DUTIES: As a Collections Agent, you will: * Review and manage assigned cases to determine collectability of accounts and manage outstanding balances. * Work closely with customers to communicate account status, establish payment plans, calculate payoff’s, and determine effective ways of resolving account balances. * Coordinate with accounting staff to accurately process daily deposits and account adjustments. * Initiate liens and judgments to secure account balances. * Communicate with civil entities to initiate wage levies. * Review settlement offers for validity and reasonableness, make recommendations to management regarding the acceptance or denial of the offer. * Coordinate and refer debts to external collection agencies. * Proofread documents, records, or other files to ensure accuracy. * Manage paper or electronic filing systems, recording information, updating paperwork, or maintaining documents, such as correspondence and other materials. * Handle incoming and outgoing mail and faxes. * Provide other clerical support to staff or customers, including financial tracking, payment entry, analyses, and reconciliations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES: If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities: Knowledge of (or ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time): * Workers' Compensation Act, Montana Administrative Rules and regulations. * Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe products. * Accounting principles and techniques. * Lien, judgement, and civil procedures. Skill in: * Excellent customer service. * Defusing tense situations. * Negotiating compromise. * Compiling, organizing and reconciling complex financial data. * Working independently, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines. Ability to: * Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. * Analyze facts and data from various systems. * Work effectively with a team. * Coordinate weekly workload with supervisor. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS As a Collections Agent you will sit for long periods and the majority of your time is spent keyboarding and on the phone. Most agents work a 40-hour workweek, but occasionally irregular hours are necessary. There are strict deadlines. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Your preparation for this opportunity could include a combination of relevant experiences including: * Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business accounting or related field. Plus, one year of directly related experience such as directing and coordinating collection-enforcement activities. * Qualifying education includes coursework in accounting or business administration. OR * 3 years of directly related experience. OR * Any combination of equivalent experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.
