Under the direction of the GBCI SVP/Chief Risk Officer, the Director of Risk Management uses analytical expertise, critical thinking, leadership skills and well-rounded bank/risk knowledge to coordinate a wide variety of risk management functions at a fast-growing bank. The position is part of our Enterprise Risk Management team, which focuses on ensuring the organization grows and matures its risk discipline commensurate with the size and complexity of the bank.
This role provides leadership over various Enterprise Risk Management and Operational Risk Management functions. The primary duties include creating, implementing, and managing a risk control self-assessment (RCSA) program; improving departmental risk assessments; enhancing the KRI/KPI program; and implementing risk technology (e.g. GRC platform). This position applies diverse methodologies to improve risk management by collaborating with the 1st line of defense (business lines) on improving their risk/control understanding and ownership.
This dynamic role functions as a key leadership position in ERM and provides the opportunity to influence and improve nearly all facets of the bank's risk management program. As such, being results-oriented and a self-starter are critical. The position requires the incumbent to be knowledgeable about risks and regulation throughout the banking industry and have the ability to proactively implement new risk management programs within an organization.
This is a Corporate position which may be located at an available bank division location across our eight state footprint in AZ, CO, ID, MT, NV, UT, WA, or WY but with a preference for Missoula, MT.
The midpoint for this position is $159,428.86+ / year (calculated for Kalispell, MT). Duties and ResponsibilitiesDescription
\* Conceptualizes the Operational Risk Management (ORM) framework for the bank and drives its continued evolution and maturity across the organization. Develops and maintains an operational risk and control self-assessment (RCSA) process. Through collaboration, enhances 1st line of defense capabilities to ensure risks are identified, monitored, and proactively controlled. As a complement to the RCSA, expands the bank's Key Risk Indicator (KRI) and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting across all departments through automation.
\* Develops analytics, systems, and reports for risk management. Selects, implements, integrates and manages a Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) system or other risk technology to accommodate risk assessments, issues management, risk-dashboards, etc.
\* Leads the bank's risk analysis of all new endeavors (products, services, technologies, etc.) within the bank's New Endeavors Committee. Effectively identifies, measures, monitors, and controls risks throughout the bank.
\* Provides leadership and applies proactive risk management on regulatory guidance, and emerging industry risks including building programs to comply with such risks. Engages with bank regulators and auditors regularly. Works with all departments on corrective actions of regulatory findings. Effectively challenges coworkers at all levels to ensure mitigation strategies are thorough, timely, and exceed regulatory expectations.
\* Collaborate with and potentially leads teams on various other risk areas including risk appetite framework, business intelligence reporting and data/query analysis, corporate governance framework, incentive compensation risk analysis, departmental risk assessments, business continuity planning, Committee/Board presentations and others, including emerging risk topics.
\* Must comply with all company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Must complete the assigned online training courses and achieve a passing score by due date.

\* Extensive knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, key risks and emerging risks impacting banks across all risk categories (credit, liquidity, market, operational, compliance, strategic, and reputation)

\* Possesses a depth of experience in operational risk management, particularly RCSA. Ability to lead detailed process walkthroughs with management across all departments, including identification of process risks and controls and potential gaps.

\* Understanding of bank business line operations, products, services, systems and associated risk/controls. Knowledge of governance, risk, compliance, and audit competencies with awareness of GRC platforms for data collection, aggregation and reporting.

\* Passion to continuously identify and execute improvement opportunities within the risk department and across the organization to better enhance and develop the institution.

\* Ability to collaborate, motivate, persuade, and influence stakeholders at all levels. Internal and external stakeholders include the Board, executive management, business units, auditors, consultants, and regulators.

\* Strong data governance knowledge and skills and advanced knowledge of quantitative analysis and business intelligence tools and techniques used in risk management.
