As a Database Administrator at the State of Montana's Department of Administration, you'll be at the forefront of cutting-edge IT projects, playing a critical role in streamlining state agencies' access to vital data. Imagine your expertise powering data warehouses like Snowflake and optimizing critical Oracle databases, all while collaborating with a friendly, supportive team in a beautiful mountain state setting. This position provides database administration support and assists state agencies with deployment of state standard database technology. Duties typically involve database administration, backup and recovery strategies, database development, technical support, and software patch management and maintenance of relational database systems for mission-critical operations. You will contribute to strategic decisions about database design, provide maintenance and tuning, as well as diagnose and troubleshoot complex database issues. If you are hired as a senior Database Administrator, you will lead database architecture design and integration efforts as well as innovative approaches to solve complex problems. Please note that this positionis required to rotate on-call (additional pay is allocated for on-call and callouts). Therefore, the successful incumbent must be located within 30 minutes of Helena to comply with on-call business requirements. What are we looking for? Education and Experience: /Level 2:/ · Associate degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field and · 2 years’ experience working in a variety of database environments. · Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. // /Level 3:/ · Associate degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field and · 5 years’ experience working in a variety of database environments. · Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Preference will be given to candidates with experience utilizing: · Oracle database administration concepts · RedHat Linux operating system · SQL and PL/SQL · Related tools and technologies such as RMAN and Oracle Enterprise Manager * * Competencies: /Knowledge of:/ * Database administration concepts including familiarity with data structures, storage options, query optimization, security, backup and recovery, performance tuning and troubleshooting techniques. * Installing Oracle software * Creating Oracle databases * Performing upgrades of the database and software to new release levels * Managing database storage structures * Managing users and security * Managing schema objects such as tables, indexes, and views * Proactively monitoring database health and taking preventative or corrective action as required / / /Ability to:/ * Provide exceptional customer service. * Enjoy working in a team environment. * Work with a variety of technical and non-technical professionals. * Manage varying deadlines and multiple projects. * Responding positively to changes in direction, priorities, responsibilities, or assignment. * Keep large projects, involving multiple parties, moving forward, and delivered on time; and * Exhibit a commitment to stay up to date in the IT profession.
