Nelnet DevOps Engineer in Helena, Montana

Our fast-paced company seeks a skilled and experienced DevOps Engineer who can develop and maintain our software infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with our development, quality assurance, and operations teams to create an efficient, scalable, and reliable software development process. This position requires work in support of the Company’s contract with the United States Department of Education (“ED”). As such, the United States Government requires that any applicant for this position must complete United States Government security clearance. Effective June 1, 2018, ED has informed Nelnet that security clearance applications for foreign nationals are not being accepted or processed. In light of this direction from ED, Nelnet will be unable to hire applicants without United States citizenship for such positions.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software infrastructure using AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible.

• Collaborate with developers and other stakeholders to understand their needs and create solutions that meet their requirements.

• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automation, including source control management, build tools, testing, and deployment processes.

• Monitor and analyze server and application logs, metrics, and alerts using tools such as Grafana and Prometheus.

• Troubleshoot issues and identify root causes of problems, using tools such as Jira and Confluence to document incidents.

• Recommend and implement improvements to systems, processes, and technologies, such as automation, performance tuning, and security enhancements.

• Develop and maintain documentation on infrastructure, processes, and procedures.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or requisite experience

EXPERIENCE: Qualifications:

• At least 3-5 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer.

COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible.

  • Experience with source control management (e.g., Git, Gitlab, etc.), build and release automation, and CI/CD practices (e.g., GitLab Pipelines, Quickbuild, TFS).

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Bash/Shell, Python, Powershell).

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on root cause analysis.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Compensation range for this role is $53,000 to $130,000 depending on experience.
