Summary:

Facebook seeks a leader for the role of Director & Associate General Counsel, Global Head of Employment Investigations at Facebook. The successful candidate will oversee a worldwide team of investigators. The team is responsible for handling all investigations of employee matters that may be a potential violation of law or company policy. This team sits in Facebook’s Legal department, within the Employment Law and Investigations Team.

Success in this role will require working effectively across geographical and cultural boundaries and discerning systemic issues revealed during the investigative process. Our Employment Investigators demonstrate a high degree of empathy balanced against the ability to provide direct feedback and confront witnesses with difficult information. You must be able to articulate issues to the business in the form of findings and conclusions so that long-term solutions can be developed and applied. As a Director & Associate General Counsel, Global Head of Employment Investigations at Facebook, you will also have the opportunity to deliver compliance education programs and trainings designed proactively to address workplace issues.

Required Skills:

  1. Manage, develop, coach, support, and build a growing worldwide team of investigators, strengthening leadership and promoting career growth

  2. Lead/Manage complex internal investigations of matters relating to any potential employee misconduct, including allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, bullying, privacy concerns, conflict of interest, integrity, failure to escalate code of conduct violations, inappropriate access, breach of confidentiality obligations, and other violations of law or policy

  3. Develop trust and rapport and influence partners and business leaders

  4. Partner cross-functionally with Employment Law, HR and Employee Relations Business Partners, Security, Internal Audit, and the businesses and other legal teams to build trust and effectuate collaborative partnerships across the organization

  5. Ensure investigations result in remediations that maintain a respectful culture and support a culture of compliance

  6. Utilize data to develop long-term solutions for systemic issues

  7. Model respectful and empathetic behavior in the face of difficult and uncomfortable situations surrounding an investigation

  8. Drive innovation as a thought leader by bringing strategic direction to the team

  9. Ability to travel at least 10-15%

  10. Cross functional working experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent)

  2. 15+ years of experience, either in conducting and/or managing investigations or in practicing labor and employment law dealing directly with fact witnesses

  3. 5+ years of people management experience or equivalent, with experience managing managers

  4. Experience leading diverse teams in remote locations and as a diversity and inclusion champion

  5. Experience investigating and/or advising on employment-related matters

  6. Experience conducting investigations that will withstand legal scrutiny in multiple jurisdictions

  7. Experience identifying relevant legal issues

  8. Experience summarizing and documenting investigations findings and recommendations

  9. Experience presenting findings and recommendations to leadership or those with dissenting opinions

  10. Relationship management experience in a cross-functional environment across global teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Facilitation and training experience

  2. Project management experience both at a strategic and tactical level

  3. Experience working independently utilizing judgment

  4. Formal training and/or certification in Investigations
