State of Montana Electronics Inspector in Helena, Montana

* *Position Title: Electronics Inspector / Technologist * * Description: TheMontana Department of Transportation (MDT)is recruiting an Electronics Technologist. The Electronics Inspector/Electronics Technologist is responsible for planning, coordinating, performing, and directing the design, layout, installation, maintenance, calibration and repair activities related to the department’s continuous traffic data collection program. This requires methodical analysis, monitoring, and maintenance of complex interconnected data collection and communication systems to ensure the continuous collection and transmission of traffic data to the Department’s Traffic Data Management System. Duties also involve monitoring equipment output for outliers, using methodical analysis and specialized diagnostic equipment to efficiently troubleshoot, identify and resolve issues, coordinating and directing district personnel, providing oversight of contractors, ensuring efficient communication and the completion of projects in a safe and efficient manner, and conducting ongoing research and development activities to ensure the current and future needs of MDT’s statewide traffic data management program are met. Work is typically performed in remote areas of the state under indirect supervision. The position reports to the Electronic Equipment Unit (EEU) Supervisor and does not directly supervise others. Related: Any degree with two years documented electronics course work as part of the degree PLUS a minimum of two years of industry related work experience. Electronics Technologist 2.1: The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field PLUS a minimum of two years of progressive industry related work experience. Related: Any degree with four years documented electronics course work as part of the degree PLUS a minimum of two years of progressive industry related work experience. Other education, training, certification, or licensing required (specify): Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A, Type I) with endorsements for air brakes is preferred, but not required. * * _Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:_ · Knowledge of the principles and applications of computer science, electronics, calibration, testing, operation, and maintenance. · Electronic and computer diagnoses and troubleshooting requiring general knowledge of computer programming methods and procedures, specialized analog and digital communication equipment architectures and operations, computer software applications, and technical troubleshooting methods, procedures, and techniques. · Data tracking and management duties requiring knowledge of the functions and operations of customized database software, principles of statistical research, analysis, and data collection · Skill in reading and interpreting maps, operations manuals, and technical specifications. · Ability to calibrate and configure specialized data collection and communication systems using laptops, volt meters, soldering irons, and other tools for equipment calibration, maintenance, and repair. · Ability to develop and maintain rapport with staff, vendors, and outside agencies and coordinate effectively. · Provide information to co-workers, customers, and the public through clear and concise verbal and written communication. _Required Application Materials:_ * A resume detailing your qualifications and work history.
