This position may be covered by a Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association (VEBA) *JOB DUTIES: As a Elevator Inspector, you will: * Perform inspections and make decisions about the adequacy of elevator, lift and escalator installations and ensure they are following rules, law and adopted building codes. * Complete all administrative duties including filing accurate reports. Your decisions and solutions to problems will directly affect the public’s safety, health, and welfare; the quality of construction and their compliance with adopted Codes and the economic impact related to installation, maintenance, and repair costs, on business owners, users and customers. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES: If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities: Knowledge of (or ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time): * State adopted codes, rules, laws, and policies applicable to the position. * Legislative process and enforcement procedures. * Standard elevator installation, maintenance, and testing practices. * Methods and tools of the trade as well as inspection techniques to be able to identify any deficiencies and/or violations. Skill in: * Verbal and written communication. * Spelling, composition, and grammar. * Self-direction, Analyzing information, Organization and Efficiently operate a computer * Customer service. Ability to: * Read and interpret plans and have general understanding of common construction terminology. * Develop and maintain positive relationships. * Present information in an understandable way. * Meet deadlines. * Manage work schedule with minimal oversight. * Work individually and as part of a team. * Take a logical approach to problems, identify root causes and seek solutions using problem-solving and critical thinking. * Identify complex problems and review related information to evaluate and recommend options with emphasis on life safety. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Requires high school diploma or equivalent, meet the definition of “Elevator Personnel” - have been trained in the construction, maintenance, repair, inspection, or testing of equipment, plus four years of experience in the mechanical and/or electrical aspects in the elevator industry. Qualifying education and/or experience includes: * Elevator maintenance/repair apprenticeship. * Elevator installer, repair, or maintenance. MUST have current certification or the ability to become certified within six months of employment with one of the following entities: American National Standards institute (ANSI), National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NEASA), American Standards of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), QEI or another elevator inspection certification from a provider entity, as approved by the department on a case-by-case basis.
