State of Montana Engineer Supervisor-Project Management Section Supervisor in Helena, Montana

The DNRC is actively seeking aProject Management Section Supervisorto provide support services for Department owned State Water Projects. Work Unit Overview:// The Water Resources Division’s State Water Projects Bureau administers the operation, maintenance, management, and rehabilitation of 19 Water Storage Projects including 23 dams and over 250 miles of irrigation canals. The principal function of the State Water Projects Bureau is to operate and maintain state-owned water projects that provide water storage, irrigation water delivery, flood control, recreation, and other natural resource and public benefits. TheProject Management Sectionis a section of the State Water Projects Bureau that provides for the continued safe operation of state-owned Projects by facilitating annual dam inspections, obtaining regulatory dam operating permits through the Montana Dam Safety Act (MCA 85-15), overseeing Project instrumentation and water measurement, managing Project lands, overseeing Project water rights, and assisting with Project water marketing agreements and contracts. Job Overview/: // /As Project Management Section Supervisor, the incumbent oversees staff in this position that perform a variety of technical engineering and project management functions relative to Water Project operation and management of lands owned by the DNRC. The incumbent oversees budgets and program components and prioritizes activities to assure statutory obligations are met. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): The position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering although other ABET accredited degrees such as environmental engineering or geologic engineering may be considered. Work experience must include five years of progressively responsible supervisory, management, or leadership experience preferably in an engineering program. /_A Montana Professional Engineer's License is required._//__// Applicants currently licensed in another state must obtain a Montana Professional Engineer’s License within 6-months of hire./ The Agency may use a Training Assignment. If you are interested in the position but don’t meet the minimum experience qualifications, we encourage you to apply and we will consider hiring a candidate with lower experience on a Training Assignment. * * Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:The incumbent must possess knowledge of all fields of civil engineering with an emphasis on geotechnical engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, dam design and construction practices. The incumbent must be able to work independently using professional engineering judgement to guide Program activities during both regular operation and emergency situations. The incumbent must have skills in managing projects, contracts, personnel, and budgets. The incumbent must have strong communication skills, including the ability to present facts and information clearly to both individuals and an audience and be able to handle a controversial situation with professionalism. * * Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:Work is conducted in both an office and field environment. Office work involves working individually and with others, attending meetings and working at a desk or computer for extended periods of time. Periodic work in the field involves visits to dam sites, climbing up and down dam embankments and spillways and crawling through outlet pipes. Construction inspections are often in hazardous areas requiring a hard hat and knowledge of construction site safety protocols. * * Special Information: Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months. * * Eligibility to Work: In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the person selected must produce within three days of hire documents that show authorization to work in the United States. Examples of such documentation include a birth certificate or Social Security card along with a driver’s license or other picture I.D., or a U.S. passport, or a "green card".
