JOB SUMMARY: Primary duties include providing care in the setting of the Emergency Department for CDU and Boarding patients, and low acuity ESI levels 4 & 5 patients. Provides direct and indirect professional nursing patient care in the emergency care setting that reflects initiative, flexibility and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with a minimum of supervision. Is able to effectively triage all patients presenting for emergency care rapidly and accurately. Obtains assessment data, determines priorities of care and implements appropriate interventions based on identification of physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Monitors effectiveness and patient response to interventions and treatments implemented. Functions effectively and coordinates planning of care within the multidisciplinary team framework essential to the emergency care setting. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition, patient responses to treatment and/or additional patient needs within the department. Communicates effectively with the multidisciplinary patient care team, including Emergency Department Physicians, regarding changes in patient status, pertinent clinical findings, results of diagnostic tests, additional patient needs and information pertinent to Emergency Department patient flow. Documents pertinent, accurate and complete patient information reflective of Emergency Department care provided.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: One year minimum Med/Surg experience or applicable RN experience is required. Must possess solid assessment, prioritization and critical thinking skills with the demonstrated ability for application in the implementation of appropriate clinical judgements, decisions and interventions. Excellent interpersonal skills, commitment to customer service and Emergency Department teamwork essential.
EDUCATION: Graduate of professional school of nursing.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Current Montana License as a Registered Nurse. BLS required. ACLS & PALS qualification required within 6 months of hire. TNCC and ENPC required within 1 year of hire, CEN preferred.

Possesses interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, service-oriented and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Open to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. Possesses knowledge of emergency nursing roles in the clinical setting and demonstrates an active, engaged willingness and aptitude for on-going professional development, completion of required education and integration of experience into applied emergency nursing practice. Physical strength, agility and endurance necessary for lifting/moving patients and equipment in a faced paced, varied, changing and challenging emergency care environment.
