State of Montana Environmental Project Officer in Helena, Montana
We are looking for an Environmental Project Officer (Officer) to provide agency assistance in project management for investigation, evaluation and cleanup of uncontrolled hazardous substance sites in Montana. Responsibilities include developing environmentally sound remedial investigations, feasibility studies, proposed plans and record of decisions for the implementation of environmental investigations and cleanup at sites, as well as planning and coordinating technical plans and studies, engineering designs, and construction plans and specifications. The Officer is responsible for reviewing and evaluating project cleanup alternatives relative to applicable and relevant environmental cleanup laws, coordinating a team, and explaining scientific information to members of the public in public meetings or other forums.
The Officer spends significant amounts of time in the office reviewing materials and/or generating correspondence to regulated facilities, so strong technical writing skills are needed. When in the field, the Officer will work occasional long days at various industrial and commercial facilities and physically demanding tasks such as climbing ladders, traversing up and down stairs, or walking on uneven surfaces or steep slopes. The Officer may also need to wear a respirator.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in physical, biological, environmental, earth science or a related field and two years of experience in a hazardous substance investigation and cleanup field. Experience with various treatment technologies is preferred. Compensation is starting salary as this position may progress to the level of Senior Environmental Project Officer.
