State of Montana Environmental Scientist- Education and Outreach in Helena, Montana

We are looking for a Water Quality Specialist to join our team as part of the Nonpoint Source and Wetlands Section (NPSW) in the Water Quality Division. The goal of the section is to protect and restore water quality from the harmful effects of nonpoint source (NPS) pollution, which makes up most of the pollution in the state. The cleanup and prevention of NPS pollution is voluntary, so the importance to educate and inform citizens about the sources and the effects of NPS pollution, along with the actions they can take, is essential. The Education and Outreach (E&O) Coordinator position in NPSW is essential for building bridges with landowners, stakeholders and the general public for the work DEQ does. Some education and outreach efforts include coordination, outreach, reporting, data visualization, and working with the PIOs to develop materials. At the Department of Environmental Quality, our ultimate goal is to champion a healthy environment for a thriving Montana. DEQ employees are the heart of our organization. We value the people and invest in their professional growth, promoting a culture of cross-agency collaboration as we find solutions to the environmental challenges we face. DEQ values – leadership, accountability, customer service, efficiency, excellence, and decision making – are fundamental to our work. Come be a part of the Department of Environmental Quality! The Water Quality Specialist position includes a career ladder for professional development and pay progression. This position may be eligible for occasional telework. Minimum requirements include: * Bachelor’s degree in Aquatic Ecology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Geology, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering or other physical science related education. * Two years of experience with demonstrated ability to understand environmental regulations, water quality and standards, environmental permitting, water quality monitoring and data analysis, water pollution control, and related water fields. * Preferred working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems. * Current valid Driver’s License and clean driving record in accordance with State of Montana Vehicle Use Policy Other combinations of education and experience may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
