State of Montana Environmental Water Quality Specialist in Helena, Montana
Montana’s rivers, streams and lakes are highly prized for their recreation, aquatic life, drinking, and agriculture. Are you interested in being part of a team’s goal to improve and protect the water quality of Montana’s streams and lakes?
We’re looking for an Environmental Water Quality Specialist (Specialist) to help improve and protect water quality. The Specialist develops water quality plans that include total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) and related water quality protection recommendations. The Specialist responsibilities include: 1) Characterizing pollutant loading sources; 2) Organizing, analyzing, and summarizing water quality data and 3) Writing TMDL documents that meet all Department and EPA requirements. Strong analytical and critical thinking skill are essential along with outstanding communication skills.
Travel and field work will require occasional schedule flexibility and long days. Field work can include hiking in rough terrain and wading streams.

Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Natural Resource Management, or related field and three years of job related work experience. GIS experience preferred.
