The Field Coordinator (FC) staff position is responsible for the regional coordination and logistical support of all Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) field-based activities. Primary duties include direct support and mentoring of Crew Leaders and Crew Members for adult, youth and specialty programs, with emphasis on the development and delivery of technical skills training, technical and logistical coordination for MCC crews in the field, as well as shared monitoring and implementation of MCC’s leadership development program and administrative components. Additional activities will include teaching and modeling fundamental skills to participants, field visitation to help ensure the successful and safe completion of MCC projects, and ensuring compliance with MCC policies and procedures. The FC is supervised by the Regional Program Manager and is expected to maintain good communication between all MCC offices, project partners and crews. Classification: Seasonal Status: Non-ExemptHourly Wage: $22Benefits: Health/Dental Insurance (MCC pays 75% of individual policy), vacation accrual, Travel/Food reimbursement, Pro DealsLocation: Helena, MTSeason Dates: 06/24/2024 (Flexible) - 11/8/2024APPLY/FULL POSITION DESCRIPTION: https://www.mtcorps.org/joinmcc/staff-positions/staff-positions.htmlPrincipal Duties and Responsibilities:●Project Oversight and Technical Support●Provide technical and logistical support for trail maintenance/construction, conservation, natural resource, and special initiative projects●Develop Project Information Sheets and Emergency Response Plans to communicate to crews the specific details regarding project work●Manage regional inventory of vehicles, tools and gear●Instill a culture of professionalism and caring, cultivate safety awareness within crews. Ensure compliance with MCC policies and safety standards within all crews●Ensure field work and activities are in compliance with MCC policies and regulations●Visit adult, youth and specialty crews in the field to provide guidance, support, and assistance to crew leaders as well as ensure that project accomplishments meet project partner expectations●Communicate with project partners as needed to coordinate project work logistics●Respond to in-field issues and emergencies; provide emotional and behavioral support to participants●Coordinate and organize gear and tool cache inventory systems and usageProgram Support:●Provide direction, support, and mentoring to regional leaders and members, including ongoing training, feedback, and periodic written evaluation of leader and member performance●Ensure high quality implementation of MCC programming; thorough knowledge of MCC program objectives and outcomes as well as education and training curriculum●Plan and implement regional technical trainings for all participants●Provide assistance with the delivery of non-technical training components●Demonstrate an ability to work across differences to promote inclusion of all staff, participants and partners●Oversee participant wellness through reviewing bi-weekly paperwork such as crew reports or incident reports, and conducting one-on-one check-ins and debriefing. Assist with filing workers compensation claims when appropriate●Attend and support statewide trainings when requested●In coordination with Program Manager, provide behavior improvement guidance and fair and appropriate discipline for participants as necessaryAdministrative Support:●Ensure crew paperwork is of high quality and properly filed/submitted in a timely fashion; including programmatic evaluations, Timesheets, Crew Reports, Incident Reports, Workers Compensation, Partner Evaluations, Project Accomplishments, and participant evaluations●Monitor projects and provide written documentation of field visits and program activities●Participate in an emergency on-call schedule●Coordinate all in-field project documentation requirements with Crew Leaders, including written and photographic documentation of project accomplishmentsMinimum Required Education and Experience:●At least two years of college or military experience, or equivalent work experience●Minimum age of 21●Previous leadership experience, skills, or training●Previous experience teaching, leading, or training groups of young adults●Current Wilderness Advanced First-Aid/CPR certification required; or willing to obtain●Effective written and oral communication skills●Ability to work as part of a team, and able to balance responsibilities to competing priorities●Possess relevant technical skills including, but not limited to, trail maintenance and construction, crosscut and chainsaw use and maintenance, fencing, stream bank restoration, backcountry travel and other natural resource work. Applicant should also possess experience with a wide range of power and hand tools●Sawyer skills necessary to obtain operator certification at, or above, B-Sawyer Felling and Bucking level●Ability to be away on overnight trips for up to two weeks at a time, often camping in a tent●Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, cloud-based collaborative systems, and G Suite for businesses●Ability to pass a Criminal History Check●A valid driver’s license, ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records check and ability to be insurable per MCC parametersPhysical Demands:●Ability to hike 3-12 miles per day in terrain that can be steep, rocky or uneven, often wearing a 60lb backpack and carrying tools●Ability to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly and use hand and power tools●Willingness to work long, hard hours in all weather conditions; ability to be away on overnight trips for up to two weeks at a timeMCC is committed to being diverse, welcoming, and inclusive.
