State of Montana Financial Data Analyst in Helena, Montana

The Statewide Accounting Bureau is comprised of a team of accountants who have fun while getting the job done! We are seeking a unique individual who enjoys working with financial data and using that data to improve financial reporting processes. This position plays a key role in data preparation, reporting, results interpretation, and analysis to provide meaningful and actionable insights into accounting data, financial reporting, and policy. Duties include partnering with internal stakeholders and consulting agency stakeholders to gather data from multiple sources, run analyses, and interpret results to provide trends, patterns, inconsistencies, and areas of potential improvement.Familiarity with standard concepts and practices surrounding accounting functions utilizing large, automated accounting systems is preferred, but not required. Specific conditions will be outlined as part of the job offer and must adhere to state policy./ What are we looking for? * *__Competencies: · Ability to translate requirements/requests from subject matter experts into data analyses that present insight in support of decision-making and accurate financial reporting · Reporting capabilities with experience in extracting data from multiple sources/ERP systems. Knowledge of SQL database query and report development is preferred. · Demonstrated Excel skills with the ability to create complex spreadsheets (e.g. Vlookups, pivot tables, formula writing, power queries, charting, etc.). · Experience in requirement gathering and analysis, user stories, and data cleansing. · Strong communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills. · Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement and efficiency. · Effectively work both in a team environment and independently to achieve bureau objectives and timelines. · Ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing conditions and responsibilities, working on both urgent requests and longer-term projects. · Knowledge of principles and practices of information systems analysis, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and security-related functions. · Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and/or financial statement and note disclosure preparation and presentation, is a plus. Education and Experience: · A bachelor’s degree in information systems, data analytics/science, accounting, business administration, or other related field of study; and · Two years of applicable job experience. · Experience with Statewide Accounting, Budgeting, and Human Resource Systems (SABHRS) is preferred, but not required. · Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
