The mission of the Fisheries Division of Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is to preserve, maintain and enhance all aquatic species and their ecosystems to meet the public’s interest in recreational opportunities and stewardship of aquatic wildlife. The Fisheries Division accomplishes this mission by implementing policies and programs that emphasize the management of wild fish populations and the protection and restoration of their habitats; by operating an efficient hatchery system to stock lakes and reservoirs where natural reproduction is limited or lacking; by monitoring and regulating angler harvest to maintain balanced ecosystems; by providing and maintaining adequate public access to fisheries; and by providing educational programs for the public. Job Duties: * Assist the Fisheries Division Administrator in overseeing the implementation and administration of fisheries division functions, policy development, planning efforts, and inclusion of human dimension factors in fisheries management for the state. * Coordinate overall fisheries management goals and objectives for FWP o Development and implementation of statewide and regional fisheries management plans (sport fish and native species). o Develop statewide fishing regulations. o Restoration and enhancement of species of concern. o Monitoring and evaluation of fisheries populations. o Coordination and implementation of research to evaluate attainment of management objectives. _Physical and Environmental Demands:_ Incumbent is often required to work long hours in an office environment under the pressure of multiple deadlines. Some travel, often for multiple days and extended hours, is required. Incumbent is required to attend and conduct public meetings, sometimes with difficult audiences and under emotionally charged situations. May occasionally be required to observe and participate in strenuous field activities to review and evaluate projects. Some air travel (commercial or department small aircraft) may be required. Incumbent frequently works independently, but there is routine consultation with the Division Administrator concerning work decisions. _Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):_ The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science Degree in fisheries, biology, zoology, or related field and at least 5 years of experience in fisheries management or equivalent position. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Training in management practices, leadership skills, facilitation, project management, conflict resolution, and negotiation processes is preferred.
