There will be standing, lifting, twisting, and working in adverse weather. The job is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. There will be a practical test for Welding/Mechanical. Job Duties: * * Thefleetsectionprocures,manages,maintains,anddisposesagencyownedvehicles.FWPfleetisacentralizedprogramlocatedintheHelenayetprovidesitsservicestoallFWPemployeesandprojectsstatewide. Thefleetaccountisaninternalservicefundandchargesrentalratestodepartmentusers.Thefleetaccountingareatracksmileage,maintenance,andusageof the600fleetvehicles,monitorsandreconcilesWEXcreditcardtransactions,processes journalentriesforbothvehicleratesandWEXtransactions andmaintainsthefleetdata base.Thefleetmaintenanceareaconsistsofautomotiverepairandmaintenance,woodandmetalfabricationandelectronicsdesign, installation,andrepair.Fleetmanagementmonitorsandcoordinatesalltheabovefunctions, developsstrategies anddirectiontocontinuallyprovidesafe,efficient,cost-effectivefleetservicestoallFWPpersonnelandprograms. JobOverview:Design,develop,engineer,fabricate,weld,and assemblemetalprojectssuchasanimaltraps,headacheracks,hydraulicflatbeds,specializedaircrafttowbars,trailers,andfishcarriers.PerformgeneralpreventivemaintenanceondepartmentvehiclestoincludeFluidservices,tirerotations,tune-ups,electricaldiagnostics,andrepair, performtechnicalrepairsonengines,transmissions,clutches,anddifferentialsasrequired. *Essential Functions(MajorDutiesorResponsibilities)*These duties may vary dependingon thefleetprogram needsand the agency's seasonaldemands. Fabrication * · Fabricateandassemblespecialrequestitemssuchasanimaltraps,vehicle accessories and trailers to meet specialized Department needs. · Design, engineer, and fabricate metal projects such as bear traps, vehicle headache racks, helicopter power towbar, live fish carriers, moving targets, trailers of all types, hydraulic dump beds and other requested items as needed. · Develop layouts,diagramsand blueprintsasspecified by requestor.Layout and mark reference points using template, ruler, square,compass and scale.Operate machines such asshears,cutoff saws,band saw,brakes, press,form roll,drill press,arbor press, millingmachine,metallathe,Gas,Mig,TigandArcweldingmachines,CNCplasma tableand hand plasma arc.Hammer, chip and grind work piece tocut, bend and straighten metal.Preheat workpieces using hand torch.Position, align, fit, and weld components within specific tolerances. * * *VehicleRepairandMaintenance · Inspect, maintain, and perform general preventive maintenance (lube and oil, tires, onboard electronics diagnostics, brakes, troubleshoot, replace/repair non-working parts, chassis, drivetrain, engine, emissions, minor body, and paint, perform safety inspections) on all types of department vehicles. * o + · Performtechnicalrepairsonclutches,transmissions, differentials, front-end components,brakes, and other specialrequirements on departmentvehicles. + · Use computer diagnostic tools to perform diagnostic checks of vehicle's on-board computers to determine problem areas.Test electrical components using multimeters and test lights. Navigate reference data and troubleshooting informationusingonlineresourcessuchasAll Dataandotherproviders. + Provide supervisor/fleet manager with information to determine if a repair is economically feasible toextend thelife of a vehicle. + Performmaintenance andrepairs of all types of department equipmentto including but not limited to trailers, boats, forklifts, ATVs, snowmobiles, and enforcementequipment. + Vehicle body damage repairs to include straightening bent or dented panels. Remove and replace damaged body parts. Preparation of metal and plastic body parts for refinish. Paint application using HVLP paint gun and associated tools and measuringequipment. + Heavy equipment general repairand maintenance on department forklifts,skid steers, backhoe's, heavy trucks, and trailers. * *ElectronicsInstall&Maintenance * o + · Read wiringdiagrams in order to perform electronic equipment installs in department vehicles. Equipment to be installed will be radios, sirens, emergency lighting, camera systems, winch and controls,antennas,automatic gun locks, amplifiers and boosters, other electronic equipment as needed. * o + Troubleshoot and diagnose electronic issues by using multimeters, testlight and other electronic testequipment. performrepairs of electronics wiring, coax, fuse panels and components. Verify equipment is functioning properly. + Removeequipmentfromretiringvehiclesandreconditionforinstallationintonewvehicle. Small Engine Repair Performs repairand maintenance on a variety ofsmall engines,such assnowmobile engines, chainsaws,ATVs,and lawnequipment.Observesandexaminesengineand partsinoperation to detect malfunction.Tear down, repair or rebuild as needed if economically feasible. Warehouse Complex Perform buildingmaintenance suchas minor remodeling,electrical plumbing,snowremoval and miscellaneous tasks as needed on campus.Ensure generalmaintenance is done to include updating wiring andrepairsto existing structure. Minimum Qualifications: The knowledge, skills,and abilities of this position are normally attained through combinationof education and experience equivalent to two-yeartechnicaldegree in automotive or welding and 2 years of experience.Othercombinations of education and experience will beconsidered ona case by-case basis.
