KLJ FTTH OSP Designer/Fielder (Telecom) in Helena, Montana

Job Summary:

Provides design support to GIS staff and project managers for various fiber network projects (FTTH, FTTC, FTTB, Transport, Greenfield, Homerun, First/Middle/Last Mile) that differ in architecture, location and deliverable. Takes part in providing technical assistance for the daily observation, development, reporting, and observation of construction projects.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform HLD/LLD work for engineering drawings, designs, and models from proposed and existing site conditions, resources, general instruction, preliminary sketches, illustrations, diagrams, or schematics in conformance with applicable rules, design standards, and construction standards to meet the constraints of scope, time, budget, schedule, and client expectations.
  • Assist with compiling and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, preliminary sketches and diagrams, GIS/CAD data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and planning.
  • Assist technical staff and project managers with risk identification and assessment, offering input and analysis with design concepts, construction, mitigation and improvement activities, and remediation projects.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications:

  • Hands-on knowledge and use of GIS design softwares for FTTH construction routing, material placement, cable sizing, splicing disciplines, reading and interpreting fiber schematics.
  • 5 to 7 years of hands-on telecom FTTH, middle mile and last mile design experience.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications design principles, NESC standards, OSP buried and aerial construction practices.
  • Experience working in GIS design platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a "Team" environment. Understanding the "overall" processes and how each team member contributes to a final deliverable product.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
