The Core Systems & Banking team within UMB’s Information Technology organization is comprised of systems engineers, application support, project managers and business analysts. They partner with UMB’s Depository, Lending and Investments lines of business relating to the support of core systems and platforms.
As the IT Director of Core Systems & Banking, you will drive scalability, stability, and security among all core solutions within UMB’s bank operations. You will be expected to provide leadership, strategy, and direction of core systems including Depository, Lending and Investments platforms. Your success depends on the ability to work with the technical teams, vendors, product owners, and project managers to lead technical solutions for our business partners. Leadership is expected in this role to change processes and requirements to meet changing technologies and demand while reducing complexity of the portfolio, developing talent, and delivering consistent SLA’s and quality.
How you’ll spend your time:
Lead and deliver efforts ranging from Business-as-Usual small enhancements to strategic initiatives with budgets of at least $1MM.
Manage day-to-day health, responsiveness of in-house, and vendor systems.
Lead the Core Systems & Banking team in adhering SLA’s, capacity management, projects from start to end, budget commitments, and other operational metrics while maintaining stability of the environment.
Closely collaborate with multiple Centers of Excellence such as Change Management Services, Engineering, and Data Management teams.
Lead various activities including Business Continuity Planning (BCP) application participation, SDLC & ERM, technical refreshes, critical surveys, etc.
Lead Transformation initiatives for creation of next-generation business processes and accelerated adoption of technology across UMB including collaborating with function/cross-functional teams, business teams, and external suppliers/vendors as needed.

You have Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Information Technology and at least 10 years of Information Technology experience.
You have at least 5 years of Core Systems or Banking experience specifically proven experience in transactional banking.
You have at least 4 years of successful experience managing geographically diverse teams in multiple locations. Experience in managing managers and their respective teams following test-driven development practices and test automation is required. This includes strong experience in developing career path and succession.
You are a systems-agnostic IT leader with an open-minded approach to technology. This includes considerable experience within the mainframe and distributed systems.
You are a forward-thinking IT leader with strong conviction.
You have proven success in influencing business leaders and managing conflict.
You have success in resource management and developing hybrid resources model.
Open to qualified remote candidates. However, we ideally prefer candidates located within the UMB footprint and expect the individual to travel to corporate UMB locations as needed.
The pay range for a candidate selected for this position who is based in Colorado is typically $164,010 to $304,710 annually. The selected candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, including but not limited to work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay for the selected candidate may be above or below this range. The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in one or more incentive plans based on company and individual performance.
