There are two Positions currently open at the DNRC, one is located in Helena and one is located in Missoula. Work Unit Overview: * The Legal Unit's purpose is to provide competent legal services to the various divisions of the Department in achieving their missions which includes the responsibility for the defense and prosecution of the laws administered by the Department within funding and staffing limitations. As a Lawyer 2, you will work within the DNRC Legal Unit. Position 00024 will primarily provide legal advice and representation to the Department's Water Resource Division and Director's Office. The duty station for Position 00024 is Helena, MT. Position 60310 will primarily provide legal advice and representation to the Department's Trust Land Management Division and Forestry Division. The duty station for Position 60310 is MIssoula, MT. However, DNRC will consider Helena, MT, as an alternate location for this position. *Job Overview: You will represent the DNRC in all phases of litigation and administrative proceedings that involve pursuing and defending actions related to the Department's mission and responsibilities. You will provide legal opinions, advice, and assistance to Department staff and leadership related to legal issues and policy matters involving the Department’s statutory duties pursuant to Titles 2, 75, 76, 77 and 85 of the Montana Code Annotated, the Montana Administrative Procedure Act, the Montana Environmental Policy Act, and other statutes implemented by the Department. You will also perform a variety of other duties to support the Department’s mission and operations. These “other duties as assigned” include providing legal support for special projects such as rulemaking, representing the Department at various meetings and conferences, participating in ongoing training and educational programs, providing legal support to the Department related to the Montana Legislature, and advising the Department on personnel matters, public information requests, and other matters related to the Department’s operations. Supervision: It is not expected that this position will supervise staff. An ideal candidate has 2 or more years of experience related to natural resources law and/or property law. * Incumbent must become licensed to practice law in Montana within 6 months of hire. * Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of legal research methods and techniques; negotiating techniques; court and administrative hearing processes, procedures, and rules; administrative, mineral, natural resource, land use, property statutory and case law; laws and rules administered by the Department. Special Information: Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months. Eligibility to Work: In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the person selected must produce within three days of hire documents that show authorization to work in the United States. Examples of such documentation include a birth certificate or Social Security card along with a driver’s license or other picture I.D., or a U.S. passport, or a "green card".
