Rocky Mountain Development Council, Inc. Long Term Care Ombudsman/Information & Assistance Counselor in Helena, Montana

Rocky Mountain Development Council has an opening for a full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, Local Long- Term Care Ombudsman (LLTCO)/Information& Assistance Counselor for Rocky’s Agency on Aging Program in Helena. Ombudsman services will be provided in Lewis and Clark, Jefferson, Broadwater, & Meagher Counties. The starting salary for this position is $19.79 per hour. Once the successful candidate has obtained the State of Montana Ombudsman Certification and the Information and Assistance Program certificates, the hourly wage will increase to $21.41 per hour, effective the first day of the pay period following completion of all certifications. Travel reimbursement is provided.At Rocky, the wage is just part of your total compensation. The LLTCO, in accordance with the Older Americans Act, advocates for residents in nursing homes, Critical Access hospitals, and assisted living facilities and serves as a liaison between residents, their legal representatives (if applicable), long-term care facility staff, and other parties as appropriate. This position assists residents of long-term care facilities in finding their voices and asserting their self-determination.The Information and Assistance Counselor guides individuals and groups about Older Americans Act services. Minimum Qualifications:Knowledge of:Geriatrics and the aging process; The principles of human services and social work is preferred;The rights and concerns of long-term care residents; The medical, social, mental, and emotional process of aging;The State and local long-term care system of social services and public benefits programs related to long-term care residents; Federal CMS guidelines for all nursing facilities and state regulations for assisted living facilities.Human services for older adults, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers.What it means to be an older adult, a person with a disability, or a caregiver to these individuals.Ability to:Obtain and maintain the Montana DPHHS Long-Term Care Ombudsman certification.Fulfill responsibilities assigned by the federal Older Americans Act and State Long Term Care Ombudsman statutes on behalf of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman Program. Appropriately and timely assess and analyze problems brought to them by facility residents and clients.Develop effective working relationships with long-term care residents, older adults and persons with disabilities, their caregivers, family members of residents, facility staff, co-workers, the public, and other agencies.Work on a computer utilizing e-mail and word processing.Drive and travel throughout the assigned service area in Area IV, including winter travel on potentially hazardous roads.Stay true to the purposes of relevant public policies, to master the profession, and to act professionally while working with large caseloads, meeting deadlines, and establishing priorities under all conditions.Work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member. To obtain and maintain certification by the State as an I&A Counselor.Exercise professional judgment and discretion with sensitive client information and confidentiality.The above knowledge and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of a two-year degree or two years of professional experience with at least one year in aging, human services, long-term care management, or a related field. Transferable skills from comparable education and experience may be considered at the discretion of Rocky’s Area Agency Program Director.
