Emerson Maintenance Technician Lead in Helena, Montana

TITLE: Maintenance Technician Lead

SUPERVISOR: Retail Value Stream Manager

SUBORDINATE(S): N/A

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Equipment:

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of conveyor systems and related electrical and mechanical equipment.

  • Responsible for all activities in the maintenance department, including troubleshooting and repairing machinery and equipment problems, upgrading equipment, and new installations (electrical, pneumatic, etc.).

  • Implement Preventive/Corrective Maintenance programs, including motorized machinery such as Forklift /Clamp Fleet.

  • Reduce downtime during production by maintaining equipment and reducing unnecessary maintenance.

  • Ability to troubleshoot basic relay logic, ladder diagrams, and control components-- photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, Servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, and encoders. Able to read blueprint and electrical and pneumatic schematic.

  • Basic knowledge of PLC programs, ability to troubleshoot ladder logic (read use for troubleshooting), components (CPU back plains, I/O boards, counters, modules, and devices), and communications modules (Ethernet)

  • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Facilities:

  • Perform routine building maintenance such as basic mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, welding, minor adjustments, and repairs as needed.

  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot basic power distribution systems, branch circuits, lighting systems, transformers, and wiring methods and materials.

  • Coordinate rack installation, relocation, and repair as needed.

  • Recommend and maintain essential and necessary spare parts inventories.

  • Complete all repairs and maintenance work to company standards.

Administrative & People leading:

  • Lead (hands-on) maintenance technicians toward company objectives and maintenance activities

  • Maintain a safety-first culture by promoting and driving safe work practices and timely training.

  • Work with vendors to keep abreast of new equipment and process developments and to find alternate sources of supply with better pricing or service.

  • Maintenance purchases/services invoices receiving transactions in Oracle.

  • Oversees outside maintenance service work done by contractors in general.

  • Coordinate the work of contractors with planned maintenance activities.

  • Record keeping of MTTR and MTBF for Data Analysis.

  • Develop and revise standard maintenance procedures to maximize effectiveness, maintain a safe work environment, and encourage employees to have a good safety attitude.

  • Supports Safety Specialists on OSHA requirements. Provides insights on fire drills, safety issues, and regulatory compliance.

  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship across all levels of the organization.

  • On-call 24 hours for any maintenance-related issues that could impact the company’s ability to meet customer commitment, including working overtime on weekends.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • EDUCATION: An associate degree in a related technical field is required; additional coursework is preferred.

  • EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience in the Maintenance field.

  • Previous experience working with conveyor systems in industrial and/or warehouse settings.

  • Basic PLC.

  • Electrical (up to 480V), HVAC, pneumatic, and mechanical knowledge.

  • EQUIPMENT: Operate powered industrial trucks such as Forks, Clamps, Scissors, Boom Lifts, and similar warehouse equipment. Able to use hand and power tools. Must be able to exercise responsibility for preventing loss or damage to all equipment.

  • PEOPLE (SOFT) SKILLS: Demonstrate ability to coordinate a team and promote collaboration among departments.

  • MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires the ability to work independently and handle projects to completion.

  • Requires giving and following detailed instructions and making limited decisions involving considerable judgment in carrying out instructions and standard procedures, methods, and practices.

  • In-depth troubleshooting of equipment, applying technical experience to determine optimal solutions to break down problems.

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical Demand: Considerable physical effort working with average or medium-weight material. Able to regularly lift up to 40 pounds. Required to work standing up, walking, and using hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment. Reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally work in a seated position, climb, or balance. Ability to work in industrial/commercial environments involving exposure to elements such as dirt, dust, heat, or odors. Care must be taken when handling LP gas tanks.

  • Visual Demands: Continuous mental and/or visual attention where operation involves driving the fork truck, especially in areas where other employees may be working or walking.

  • Audio Demands: Able to hear/respond to alarms and other signals and exercise continuous awareness in all parts of the facility
