Specific Job Information: Join the Helena Maintenance team as a Maintenance Worker 1, where you will primarily focus on maintenance tasks at the Beartooth Wildlife Management Area (WMA). This position, based in Helena, will see you spending approximately 75% of your time working on-site at the WMA. Housing will be provided at the WMA bunkhouse. The remaining 25% you will be assigned to assist with large regional projects or maintenance needs at Fishing Access Sites and State Parks. This position will typically work a 40 hour week Monday - Friday from May I-December 1. However, flexibility exists to adapt work schedules to individual needs on a case-by-case basis. As a Maintenance Worker l, you will be responsible for inspecting and maintaining equipment, performing minor repairs, mowing, controlling noxious weeds, repairing fences, and trimming trees and shrubs. Additionally, you will assist with latrine maintenance and cleaning, road and trail upkeep, and habitat projects identified by the area wildlife biologist. You will play an important role in identifying maintenance needs and adjusting workflows to minimize public impact. There may also be instances where you will need to respond to on-call maintenance requests, which could involve evenings, weekends, or even nights This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic outdoor environment and contribute to the maintenance and preservation of a critical wildlife area. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In this role, you will mainly work independently, without direct supervision, and will be expected to take initiative in completing tasks. You should be able to consistently maintain high standards of work, demonstrate ethical behavior when interacting with visitors, and respect authority. Effective communication is essential, and you must be able to relay accurate information about site facilities, regulations, and recreational opportunities to both the public and your team. Additionally, you will collaborate with other team members, sharing the workload and going the extra mile to ensure the successful achievement of the unit's goals. The work is outdoors, and you will be exposed to all weather conditions throughout the year. As such, it is important that you are in good physical condition and capable of handling the physical demands of outdoor work, which may include lifting 30-50 pounds regularly. Strong outdoor skills are necessary to perform duties effectively and safely. You should posses the following knowledge and skills: * Ability to use spreadsheets and other programs necessary to complete maintenance Jogs and personnel reports. * Working knowledge of methods and practices of general maintenance and construction work including, but not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, small equipment repair, and electrical work, and basic knowledge of noxious weeds. * Working knowledge of the care and use of tools and operation of a variety of equipment including but not limited to, chainsaws, commercial mowers, skids teer loader, tractors, A TV /UTV s, and weed spraying equipment. This includes. The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalency and one year of job-related experience. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Basic First Aid/CPR certification is required for this position. The incumbent must have the ability to acquire the proper license/certification and maintain through continuing education and recertification testing.
