Grasslands Program is an acute care unit for adolescents ages 12 to 18. The average length of stay is approximately 8 to 10 days. The Grasslands Program provides short term stabilization for adolescents in crisis.

Starting Salary: $13.37 to $16.41 hourly, DOE

Position will work every second weekend on Saturday & Sunday for 4 hour shift and one 4 hour shift Monday-Friday each week


Provides direct care to children concerning hygiene, safety, meal supervision, monitor in school, interaction with other children and activities on and off the unit, under the supervision of LPN/RN. Uses patient diagnosis/problems/needs and interdisciplinary team treatment plan to guide care for each child in an individualized manner. Serves as a role model to teach manners, safe ways to express feelings, appropriate behavior and living skills. Helps monitor and maintain a safe milieu and utilizes therapeutic communication skills.


  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.

  • Ensure patient care areas are clean and organized.

  • Complete safety plans with patients.

  • Assist patients in all therapeutic programming.

  • Communicate changes in patient’s status with the entire team.

  • Assist in special procedures (ie. restraint and seclusion).

  • Escort patients on appointments.

  • Participate in special procedure debrief meetings with other nursing staff.

  • Interact with patients, redirecting and teaching patients positive, safe ways to express feelings and interact with others; transporting patients to therapeutic activities when needed.

  • Ensure safety of patients/staff by communicating significant changes in the behavior and implementing non-violent crisis intervention techniques with staff assistance.

  • Understand basic child development; implementing age appropriate interventions during supervision of play, daily routines, grooming, mealtimes and off-unit activities.

  • Serve as a role model to assist the patient to be in control of himself/ herself and to achieve greater self-understanding.

  • Observe and document significant behaviors of patients and communicate information to the multidisciplinary team.

  • Learn to apply mental health principles in all relationships with patients.

  • Learn, understand and implement hospital approved intervention plans.

  • Escort visitors.

  • Answer unit phones.

  • Attend unit meetings and exchange information regarding activities of the unit.

  • Maintain current, hospital required, certifications.

  • Complete all required competencies and training modules, as assigned, by date due.

  • Complete duties as assigned by licensed staff, house supervisor and unit manager.

High School Diploma or GED preferred. At least two years of college education highly recommended. Must have valid, current MT driver’s license and be at least 18 years of age. Position requires Criminal Records Background Check.
