The Boeing Company is looking for a Metrology & Calibration Test & Evaluation Lab Technician to join our team in Helena, MT . As a Metrology technician, you will have an important and exciting role in the company that includes calibration, building test fixtures, and developing procedures to test new equipment. This role will tackle new and challenging problems every day.
Metrology And Test Equipment Services (MATES) provides a full spectrum of test asset and metrology services and support for internal customers and products through all phases of the product lifecycle. Services include: test asset selection and use, acquisition, allocation, resource and lifecycle management, calibration/certification for over 600,000 dimensional/optics, electrical/electronic and mechanical/physical measurement and test assets, sourcing management, measurement solutions, repair & maintenance and specialized test services. MATES supports calibration/certification of 11,000 to 12,000 assets locally annually.
MATES is comprised of engineers, technicians and administrative personnel who support Boeing programs, business units and external/government customers by providing the best value test asset management and metrology services through all phases of the product lifecycle. We are responsible and accountable to meet or exceed the safety, quality, cost, and delivery performance expectations established in customer negotiated service agreements.
What is metrology? Metrology is the science of measurement. It establishes an unbroken chain of traceability from the measurement & test equipment (M&TE) on the factory floor or in the lab, allowing it to be referenced to higher levels of measurements back to the original definition of the unit. Boeing relies on traceable M&TE to ensure that our manufacturing processes, research & technology, and test & evaluation activities are repeatable and reproducible.
DEFINITION OF TERMS *Basic M&TE and process equipment e.g. Torque tools, precision hand tools, process tools, surface plates, levels, and items used to measure and record: force, mass, pressure, vacuum, and temperature.
The ideal candidate will have good communication skills, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. They will be adaptable and learn new skills quickly.
This position is primarily for 1st shift; however, various shifts, nights, weekends and alternate shifts may be required to meet program objectives.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Mid-Level or Senior Metrology & Calibration Test & Evaluation Lab Technicians.
Position Responsibilities:
Plan, check, set up, and operate, basic Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE) and/or process equipment
Perform calibration and/or repair of torque tools
Use calibration standards to calibrate, adjust, certify, maintain, and repair M&TE/process equipment using approved calibration procedures, process specifications, equipment drawings, and M&TE /process equipment manufacturer's performance specifications
Conduct routine tests, analyze data and document results
Update equipment status using established systems and complete associated paperwork
Ensure equipment is ready for calibration per metrology processes
Prioritize and perform work according to automated daily report list, hot list, or as assigned by lead technician
Perform visual check of M&TE/process equipment for discrepancies and wear
Troubleshoot and recommend resolution of basic laboratory and test-related problems
Identify, document, and route non-conforming items in accordance with metrology lab processes
Provide information and clarification to customers on metrology processes
Work with other employees engaged in the calibration and certification of M&TE
Assist in the development of new calibration processes and procedures
Perform computations necessary to analyze measurement test results
Perform tasks associated with Test Asset Management and Property Management including asset tagging, redeployment, storage and surplus
Perform logistics associated with routing calibrated assets to remote Boeing labs and suppliers for calibration services
Respond to production and customer related issues concerning calibration/certification and lead initiatives to influence multi-functional improvements
Supports audits on M&TE
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
3+ years of experience in test asset or metrology
Experience performing data manipulations in Excel (e.g. develop and input formulas, calculate values from a dataset)
Able to frequently lift, push, and pull up to 35 pounds frequently within an 8-hour shift
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Associates degree in a science or technical program/military and/or college
Prior PMEL (Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory) experience highly desired
Precision metrology equipment lab training
1+ years of experience of performing calibrations in a laboratory
Typical Education/Experience:
Mid-Level (Level 3)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+1 years' related work experience, 5 years' related work experience, etc.).
Senior (Level 4)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 6 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+4 years' related work experience, 8 years' related work experience, etc.).

Summary pay range level 3: $51,000 – $69,000
Summary pay range level 4: $59,500 – $80,500
