State of Montana Network Wireless System Engineer (66981) in Helena, Montana

(You can learn more about SITSD here.) Do you want to be involved with wireless network design for the State’s Enterprise network? Do you want to plan and design emerging technologies from the ground up? You may be the person we are looking for! You would perform activities to design and architect the wireless components and infrastructure of the State’s Enterprise SUMMITNET Network. In addition, you would review current wireless designs and recommend solutions based on new or changing Enterprise network needs and/or policies as well as emerging industry technologies. You would conduct and assist in Proof of Concept tests as well as conduct engineering planning and design sessions with the State’s various networking vendor partners. You would also assist with various network audits and risk assessments and with network disaster recovery plans. An average of 15% of your time would be spent traveling, and 5% of that would be overnight trips. What are we looking for? Education and Experience: * Associate's degree in Information Technology or related field, and three years of applicable experience; OR * Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Competencies: /Knowledge of:/ * RF fundamentals and Wi-Fi antenna characteristics; * IEEE 802.11 and Wi-Fi Alliance standards; * Various wireless architecture types and wireless management systems; * Industry best practices for wireless networks; * Broad IT concepts (voice, video, data networking, operating systems, hardware, software operations and diagnostics); * Familiarity with the OSI model; * Cisco CCNA/CCNP Wireless; * Cisco CCNA/CCNP Route/Switch; * CompTIA Network ; * Experience with project management principles, practices and techniques. /Ability to:/ * Recommend a variety of wireless design solutions using resourceful approaches and research when necessary; * Design, implement and troubleshoot an enterprise class wireless network; * Communicate technical information with both technical and non-technical people at all levels in state government; * Develop effective working relationships with co-workers, managers, employees of state government, and citizens of the state; * Work effectively under stressful circumstances as priority incidents occur; * Develop and document processes and procedures; * Work independently and in a team environment; * Manage competing deadlines with shifting priorities; * Deliver confident and informed decisions related to matters of Enterprise Wireless network architecture.
