About the Position
This is a Temporary position. Hours are expected to be less than 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday between 8 am – 5 pm. The Payroll Specialist position is responsible for providing accurate and concise information to employees, supervisors and human resources in order to process, track, and implement payroll related information. Regularly responds to inquiries such as union affiliation, civil service requirements, W-2 and I-9 questions, benefit information, policies and procedures for MDT and the State, FMLA guidance, and FLSA rules. Assist with a wide variety of other questions or issues that arise during the new hire phase, bi-weekly payroll cycle, and employment status changes. Reports directly to the Payroll Supervisor and does not supervise others.
Minimum Qualifications: 4 years combination of related education and experience such as bachelor’s degree in a related field; or associate’s degree and 2 years of related work experience; or 4 years of related work experience. No prior experience is required. Alternative methods of obtaining the necessary qualifications may be considered on a case by case basis.
Maintains confidences in small, open and professional working environment. Ability to provide detailed and accurate information when producing an audit trail for any changes that are made to a timesheet. Multitasking and coordination abilities when overseeing payroll processes and timelines. Communicates with a wide variety of people in a broad variety of settings, builds consensus within groups while enforcing standards, establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
