    JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): Under the supervision of a licensed physician, the polysomnography technician must gather artifact free polysomnographic data, perform analysis, and make adjustments to breathing related devices to patients with suspected sleep related breathing disorders. The polysomnography technician primarily gathers nighttime recordings. May perform overnight EEG’s in conjunction with sleep studies.

    KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE : 1-3 years sleep laboratory experience or equivalent.

    EDUCATION : 1-3 years experience in sleep laboratory and/or respiratory therapy or related healthcare field.

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY : CPR required, ACLS preferred. RPSGT required or must be enrolled in or have completed one of the following: A-STEP Online Self Study Modules; or CAAHEP Accredited Sleep Technology training program; or Electroneurodiagnostic (END) Program; or respiratory therapy add-on track for sleep technology.

    Aptitudes : Performs detailed and accurate assignments and compiles information to ensure accurate records and facilitate appropriate patient care. The ability to effectively and creatively solve problems without immediate supervision. *The ability to plan and use time wisely. *The ability to effectively communicate with patients and families. *The ability to gather and exchange information effectively with nurses, physicians, and customers. *The ability to enter information accurately using computers. *Ability to handle stressful situations. *Must be familiar with medical terms and preparation of technical reports and graphs. *Must understand the method and techniques of sleep analysis. *Must have working knowledge of operations and maintenance of sleep equipment.
