This position will support the Worker Safety and Health program at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). This position is responsible for technical support and expertise in areas of Industrial Hygiene and Safety to management, researchers, facility operations, and safety and health professionals.

Responsibilities

Interns will have the opportunity to work on the following:

Conduct workplace exposure assessments, perform exposure monitoring of hazardous agents, and complete required documentation.

Use specialized equipment such as noise meters and particle instruments to respectively measure levels of noise and particulate matter in a work environment.

Perform beryllium surface sampling to maintain PNNL’s routine sampling program.

Evaluate chemical hygiene program and hazard categorizations.

Monitor for heat stress to include physiological and ambient.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred degrees include: Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Management, and/or Physics

Additional Information

The incumbent must be able to qualify as a Radiological Worker and beryllium worker for entry into radiological and beryllium-controlled areas at PNNL. The incumbent may occasionally perform work in the vicinity of radiation fields and may be asked to consult with emergency response activities. The incumbent may also receive minimal exposure to workplace hazards, including toxic chemicals, noise, lasers, and magnetic fields. The incumbent will also work in laboratories, around maintenance and construction activities and may be exposed to various physical hazards such as moving machinery, cranes, ladders, scaffolds, etc.
