* *The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Public Health and Safety Division, Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Bureau. Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States and kills over 1,600 Montanans per year. The Montana Tobacco Use Prevention Program (MTUPP) is seeking to fill two similar positions with this posting. Please see the different areas of the program below: 1. The Tobacco Cessation Program Officer will assure delivery of evidence-based cessation services statewide. Responsibilities of this position include: 1) Managing and monitoring the contract with the Quit Now Montana provider, including budget development and management, data interpretation and dissemination, and quality improvement activities; 2) Developing educational materials and establishing program procedures to increase referrals to cessation services and decrease overall tobacco use; 3) Engaging providers in the integration of tobacco treatment in behavioral health and health care settings; and, 4) Planning and coordinating conferences, trainings and presentations to provide education and outreach on tobacco cessation and program services. 2. The Tobacco Prevention Program Officer will manage all contracts with county health departments and the statewide youth program called ReACT. This person will assure that evidence-based tobacco prevention programs are implemented at the local level, in schools and through higher education settings through community and organizational contracts. Responsibilities of this position include: 1) Assesses ongoing program activities to identify education and training needs for tobacco prevention contractors in the local communities; 2) Reviews work plans and assess contractor compliance with required program deliverables; 3) Implements strategies to engage youth and young adults in tobacco prevention initiatives statewide and at the local level; and 4) Serves as the subject matter expert on youth engagement. * * Why Join DPHHS* * Our mission at DPHHS is to serve Montanans in their communities to improve and protect the health, safety, and well-being, and to empower independence.
