Lewis and Clark County Property Tax Clerk in Helena, Montana
Under the general supervision of the Property Tax Division Manager, this position receives, processes and posts property tax payments.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience with financial recordkeeping or balancing and handling cash. Associates degree in accounting, business administration or related field preferred. Microsoft Excel experience is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Receives, processes and posts property tax payments;
Receives and processes tax liens, tax deeds, tax assignments and redemptions;
Audits all taxing types and special districts for tax billing;
Responds to inquiries;
Researches real property and personal property tax questions;
Assists in tax appeals process;
Records and indexes documents related to land records, tax liens and discharges;
Generates reports to Accounting department;
Assists with maintaining delinquent tax lists;
Issues appropriate paperwork and verifies information for mobile home moving declarations;
Assists in revising/reissuing tax bills;
Maintains transaction records;
Reconciles and balances daily cash receipts;
Verifies, maintains and balances cash drawer;
Issues applicable County licenses and permits, including burn permits;
Processes daily mail;
Provides customer assistance with inquiries and payment of all taxing types, both in person, via email and telephone;
Performs clerical duties in support of property tax collection processes;
Performs other duties as assigned.

Must be able to be bonded to be a Public Notary.
Duties are generally performed in an office environment where hazards and discomforts are controlled and modifiable. This position requires the ability to stand, bend at the waist, kneel, reach over the head, talk, hear, and see. Must be able to move or lift documents and materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
