State of Montana Reclamation Specialist in Helena, Montana
We are looking fortwoReclamationSpecialiststo join our teamin theMining Bureau of the Air, Energy, and MiningDivision. The Reclamation Specialistisresponsible forverifyingthe scientific integrity of permit applications;identifyingviolations andinitiatingcompliance activities; and developingprogrammatic and regulatory standards and procedures. The Reclamation Specialist must communicate effectively with stakeholders, including operators and their consultants; county and local governments; landowners and thegeneral public; state and federal agencies; and other DEQ sections with overlapping regulatory authority. Responsibilities may include: * Assessment of regulatory implications and compliance for miningactivities; * Analysis of soils, vegetation, land use, and land management in the administration of the permitting, mining, and reclamationprocesses; * Conducting and coordinating detailed reviews of mine permit applications, mining and reclamation activities, data collection, andanalyses; * Developingappropriate standardsfor revegetation success,reviewingbond releaseapplicationsand reviewingand evaluatingongoingreclamation; * Designing alternative measures or mitigation strategies to protectresources; * Writing environmental assessmentsand collaborating withinternal and external partners to writeenvironmental impactstatements; * Calculating and/or influencing reclamation bond determinations and responding to requests for bondreleases; * Conducting regularmineinspections;and * Recommendingenforcement actions. TheReclamationSpecialistfrequentlycollaborates with interdisciplinary professionalswithin theagency,atotherstate and federalagencies, andfromnon-government andprivateparties toimplementthe Metal Mine Reclamation Act or the Opencut Mining Act. This position may be eligible for occasional telework. · Bachelor’s degree in physical or biological science or a program related field. · One year of job-related experience in areas such as mineral exploration or production; environmental assessment (e.g. NEPA or MEPA); surface water or ground water hydrology; environmental cleanup; land reclamation; soil and other resources mapping; land rehabilitation, regulatory implementation and project baseline studies. · Current valid Driver’s License and clean driving record in accordance with State of Montana Vehicle Use Policy _ _ Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
