St. Peters Health Registered Nurse - Perioperative Float, 0.9 FTE in Helena, Montana

This position will split time between Same Day Services and the Surgical Floor

JOB SUMMARY: Provides direct patient care in a clinical outpatient setting working collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary team members under the direction of the Department Director or designee. The goal is to promote and restore patient’s health by completing the nursing process through the collection, verification and organization of data, incorporating elements of family centered care. The nurse reviews the patient’s status related to the planned procedure to include physical parameters, lab values, medication, and pre and post procedure learning needs. Planning for care, implementing and assessing the plan and evaluating their outcomes are integral elements of the nursing process. Documentation of findings in a timely and accurate manner according to hospital policy is required. Pre and post care for surgical patients and patients of diagnostic/Interventional Radiology procedures, and Special/Cath lab procedures. Pre procedure, intra procedure, and post procedure care for sedation procedures such as but not limited to pain management and bronchoscopy; care includes RN administered IV conscious sedation as needed.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Three years experience in an Acute Care setting preferred. Previous experience delivering sedation/participating in procedures requiring sedation, as well as experience with pre-operative preparation and phase two/procedural sedation recovery preferred.

EDUCATION: Graduate of a Professional School of Nursing.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Current Montana License as a Registered Nurse. M ed/Surg or CAPA certification required, BLS and ACLS required, PALS within 6 months of hire.

Aptitudes: Must demonstrate cognitive and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers. Ability to achieve expected organizational behavioral standards. Open to feedback and a quickly changing environment which requires flexibility in scheduling, equipment, and department assignments . Possesses interpersonal and communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Must be able to work effectively within a team and be able to contribute to a positive workplace. Ability to use critical thinking skills and prioritize multiple tasks to provide optimal patient care. Strives to put the patient first above personal needs and beliefs.
