What You Will Do :
The Release Train Engineer is responsible for facilitating the scrum/agile practices and coordinating across multiple teams. This includes coaching team members, planning program increments for the organization, proactively eliminating barriers, and addressing challenges to team delivery on sprint goals. The person in this role will also partner with leadership to determine the best scaling approach for the organization The Release Train Engineer works closely with Product Owners, and Scrum Masters to support release planning; foster team decision making; encourage cross-training and team support.
This role will facilitate program level processes and execution, escalate impediments, manage risk and help drive program level continuous improvement. This role is IT Delivery focused role. The expectations are to understand overall IT delivery responsibilities, scope, dependencies, and the ecosystem, and proactively plan and resolve dependencies, and reduce risks. The role will focus on metrics, dependencies, proactive risk reduction, and collaboration of dependencies across all teams.
Apply and implement effective scaling/SAFe methodologies, processes and tools. Subject matter expert for agile/lean/scrum practices.
Aggregate scrum team objectives that are easily consumable to busines stakeholders and all team members to ensure visibility.
Leads, facilitates, and optimizes at agile train/portfolio level, with understanding of broader organizational goals. Fulfill RTE role with a multi-team organization. Champion impediment removal at the organization level.
Runs and facilitates various train/organizational ceremonies.
Ensure adherence to agile practices through program increment planning, retrospectives and related ceremonies.
Mentor less experienced Scrum Masters and offer professional/knowledge growth opportunities to the organization's Scrum Master community.
Influence successful delivery of large impact and/or cross-functional data initiatives.
Define, create, manage agile performance metrics across the portfolio for the organization through dashboards, reports etc.
Keep abreast and share agile/scrum best practices. Educate, train and share with organization.
Responsible for pre-planning and facilitating PI Planning readiness via fostering the preparation of the vision and risk management of backlogs, and post-PI activities.
Proactively identify and resolve dependencies. Understanding of the Business scope, and dependencies on other systems and teams.
Ensure that Product Management, Products Owners, and other value stream stakeholders are informed of team activities to ensure strategic execution alignment.
Lead and plan systems and solutions demos to ensure program increment while driving continuous improvement.
Aggregate and publish team objectives to ensure execution of team plans.
Manage and optimize the flow of activities through sprint and program increments using various ART and Agile tools.
Handles communication and collaboration between Agile teams
Identifies enterprise-level continuous improvement opportunities and drive implementation.
Tracks and communicates key metrics, including impediments, feature execution progress, and business value delivery
Creates retrospective improvement roadmaps by analyzing all activities and actions that have previously been performed and finding ways to improve each process as a way of continuous improvement
Support program level meetings in partnership with product management and system architect(s) to ensure the preparation, readiness, and prioritization of features for future PI planning sessions
Partners with Product Managers, Product Owners, and Business Partners to help assure strategy, vision, and road map alignment and execution
Create metric driven insights into the delivery and execution of teams using relevant portfolio, Release Train, and team level metrics
Support and encourage innovation through continuous exploration
What You Will Need :
Bachelor's Degree. You can substitute 4 years of additional exp for degree
US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust
2-10 years of IT experience
Experience as a member of an agile team
Experience as a Scrum Master, Product Owner or RTE
Depth of knowledge in an IT execution role (e.g., Scrum Master, Release Train Engineer or Product Owner)
Proven track record of success executing in a scaled Agile environment
Prior experience with program-level reporting
Prior experience fostering team self-organization and continuous improvement
Knowledge of Agile and Lean principles and practices
Understanding of Design Thinking principles
What Would Be Nice To Have :
Certified SAFe Release Train Engineer preferred, but not required
SAFe Scrum Master Certification Preferred
Experience coaching in a scaled agile is a plus
Experience developing/managing projects and program capabilities in a Federal contracting setting strongly preferred
Strong technical aptitude across a variety of domains (cloud, development, algorithm orchestration, cybersecurity, etc.)
The annual salary range for this position is $66,700.00-$100,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
