Carrington Remote Paralegal, I in Helena, Montana

What you’ll do:

Paralegal I will be responsible for assisting the Legal Department with various processes and contested matters in order to facilitate implementation of appropriate and timely courses of action. Perform all duties in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, all US state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the company operates. The target pay range for this position is $75,000.00 to $90,000.00.

What you’ll do:

  • Set-up and maintain matters in case management system, including handling incoming mail and service of process.

  • Monitor daily bot processes including communicating with IT regarding unscheduled interruptions.

  • Review various legal documents for accuracy and completeness including gathering information required, correcting typos and discrepancies.

  • Handle document subpoenas including gathering responsive records and drafting responses.

  • Secure key personnel for conferences, mediations, depositions, and other events that require in person, telephonic or virtual appearances.

  • Direct correspondence with outside counsel, third parties and business units appropriately,

  • Provide legal support to all attorneys in the department, including completing administrative duties such as coordinating meetings, answering/making phone calls, and scanning/photocopying.

  • Maintain calendar of events requiring appearance by legal department staff and key deadlines.

  • Conduct factual research including gathering relevant information from a variety of resources.

  • Assist with case settlement by gathering and organizing information needed for settlement and prepare draft requests for settlement approval.

  • Prepare check requests, vendor payee forms, IT access and change forms, and FedEx labels.

  • Serves as liaison between outside counsel, internal departments, and in-house attorneys.

  • Monitor and enforce outside counsel guidelines and SLAs.

  • Create, confirm accuracy and delivery of monthly and quarterly legal department reports.

  • Resolve routine legal issues under the direction of more senior in-house staff.

What you’ll need:

  • Ability to work well in a team-orientated environment.

  • Possess excellent verbal and written skills.

  • A solid working knowledge of mortgage servicing, lending and litigation.

  • Proficient with Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work with varying seniority levels – encompassing outside counsel, investors, vendors, business unit and legal department personnel.

  • Ability to understand complex problems, pay close attention to details, take notes, and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions.

  • Ability to evaluate options that may have significant impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside the immediate work unit.

  • Ability to accurately track and record time.

  • Ability to operate independently and be proactive before issues arise

  • Preference for associate’s degree, paralegal certification and/or a bachelor’s degree.

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience working as a paralegal.

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience working in mortgage banking industry.

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience working with litigation case management systems with a preference for Legal Tracker.
