U.S. Army Reserve Command Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in Helena, Montana

Summary About the Position: This position is with the 79th Sustainment Support Command, 652nd Regional Support Group, 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command located in Helena, Montana. Responsibilities Conduct Standard Army Safety and Occupational Health inspections. Conduct inspections of subordinate unit safety programs to identify potential hazards and effectiveness of safety programs. Assess safety hazards involved in all aspects of range and explosive safety. Evaluate and analyze unit/activity safety programs. Investigate employee reports of unsafe/unhealthy working conditions. Compiles reports on all Army Accidents. Develop and conduct Safety Training for military units/activities. Brief unit commanders and leaders on safety program and objectives. Prepare Unit Safety and Occupational Health Advisory Council (SOHAC) meeting briefs. Participate in in-progress reviews for field training exercises. Review Risk Management Plans for hazard identification and risk control measures. Provide technical safety advice on matters pertaining to specialized military activities. Initiate safety education activities. Prepares brochures and newsletters explaining occupational safety procedures. Complete After Action Reports (AAR) for each exercise. Provide safety oversight at unit exercises. Write, review, and update Unit Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Pre-accident Plans, and Emergency Action Plans for effectiveness and adherence to regulations and public law. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) Assisting in performing a variety of technical, analytical, advisory, consultative, liaison, and coordinating duties relating to planning and implementing a Safety program; 2.) Assisting with developing and recommending safety and occupational health programs or policies to high level officials; 3.) Interpreting, applying and/or knowledge of the development of safety and occupational health laws, regulations, policies, procedures or standings; 4.) Evaluating existing safety programs or inspecting workplaces to determine possible hazards; 5.) Utilizing safety and occupational health knowledge to reduce or control hazards; 6.) Training individuals on safe practices; and 7.) Investigating workplace accidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Compliance Inspection Oral Communication Public Safety and Security Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. This is an Installations Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest. Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 2 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position
