Job Overview: This position serves as a Civil Engineering Specialist and the primary role of this position is a Lead Worker in the Safety Section. This position also provides a supporting role to the Safety Engineer and the Safety Project Engineer to deliver the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). This position exercises lead worker supervision over two CE Specialist positions. This includes two CE Specialist positions that review, analyze and identify safety improvements for potential inclusion in the HSIP Annual List. Their duties include applying engineering principles, problem solving and analytics to their work for the HSIP Program and to support the Agency’s Vision Zero goal on core engineering design projects. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Behaviors): Preferred knowledge skills and abilities for this position are: * Ability to problem solve * Attention to detail * Strong mental capabilities and ability to perform work under tight schedules and stressful situations. * Ability to prioritize work due to a multitude of projects, sites, corridors and/or safety reviews. * Flexibility to address rush work assignments. * Attend meetings with advocacy and/or confrontational groups. * Stress with legal depositions. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field that qualifies for licensure as a Professional Engineer. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in highway design, highway construction, traffic engineering or maintenance. This position requires a minimum of 1 year of supervision or team lead experience. Certifications, licensure, or other credentials include: Certification as a Professional Engineer in Montana is required. Alternative qualifications include a Master’s degree in an engineering field may substitute for two years of work-related experience.
