Nelnet Senior Network Security Engineer in Helena, Montana

As a Senior Network Security Engineer, you are a key member of a cross-functional team with a focus on network security. You will be responsible for auditing, supplementing and maintaining overall security on ALLO’s production network. Additionally, will be responsible for regular communication with ALLO leadership and other stakeholders. Communications will include, but not limited to, a summary of new threats, notable security events and recommendations for mitigating network vulnerabilities.

A Senior Network Security Engineer will be expected to work closely with other Engineering and ALLO network operations teams to ensure a cohesive network security strategy is implemented and maintained. This includes, but is not limited to, 24/7 network monitoring and the implementation and execution of best practices, proactive security hardware and software solutions. This position is open to remote workers outside ALLO’s service area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Configure and manage Fortinet and Cisco firewalls for ALLO’s provider network voice, video, and data services.

  • Provide expertise and advice to ALLO leadership on relevant aspects of security posture & processes, including access management, incident response, and disaster recovery.

  • Serve as subject matter expert in general network security topics for other ALLO engineering and product teams, operations teams, and corporate IT.

  • Assist ALLO in complying with applicable regulations and best practices.

  • Maintain services once they are live by measuring network health and availability.

  • Cross-train staff on security platforms & processes.

  • Troubleshoot service issues with relevant application owners.

  • Contribute to Continuous Process Improvement.

  • Manage multiple conflicting priorities & consistently meet deadlines.

  • Identify trends and network problems.

  • Analyze long-term impacts and plans accordingly.

  • Addresses potential changes or improvements.

  • Strive to make a difference through continued self-improvement.

  • Provide information to other areas of the company.

  • Develop, maintain and distribute reports.

Colorado Residents: typical pay range for this role will be from $70,000 - $130,000 depending on experience.

EDUCATION:

  • 4 year college degree in Computer Science, engineering, or related field and/or equivalent experience.

  • CISSP or GIAC and Fortinet NSE certifications desirable.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 7 years of experience in Service Provider Security Engineering or related field.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

  • Excellence oral and written communication skills

  • Managing multiple priorities

  • Critical thinking leadership planning: Tactical, Strategic Project Management Technical skills

  • Syslog & SIEM platforms; Splunk experience helpful

  • Firewall: Fortinet, Cisco, and host-based protections

  • PKI and encryption technology

  • Information security & privacy standards and practices

  • Linux

  • Windows

  • Cloud platforms (AWS & Azure experience helpful)

  • VoIP

  • BGP/OSPF/MPLS

  • IPv6

  • Scripting languages such as Python, Bash

  • Multi-vendor environments

  • DDoS mitigation tactics & technology; Arbor/Netscout experience helpful
