Intermountain Health Sponsored Projects Officer, Grants in Helena, Montana

Job Description:

This position is pivotal in managing the centralized administrative and technical functions associated with grants from external funding sources that support research, clinical trials, and other sponsored activities at Intermountain. This role will specialize in grants, which includes responsibilities pertaining to grant proposals, applications, compliance, contract negotiation, budget, monitoring and evaluation. The position acts as a liaison between internal stakeholders and external sponsors.

Essential Functions

  • Leads as a subject matter expert for grant and/or contract management, provides expert advice and guidance on research proposals, awards, contracts and administrative processes.

  • Reviews and approves proposals for completeness, ensuring adherence to required institutional documentation and deadlines. This includes serving as an organizational representative for administering federal sponsored projects.

  • Evaluates complex proposals, awards and agreements for compliance and consistency with federal and state laws and regulations, institutional policies, and agency policies and procedures.

  • Maintains a current knowledge of federal and state requirements, institutional policies and procedures governing externally funded sponsored projects.

  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and guidance related to grants and contracts management.

  • Requests additional and supplemental approvals from funding sponsor when required by a grant or contract.

This is a 100% remote position however, currently we are unable to consider candidates for remote opportunities in the following states: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington

This role will be filled at either Staff OR Senior level, see minimum qualifications for each below:

Staff Level Minimum Qualifications Pay range $29.66- $46.72

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of 2 years relevant research administration and grants management experience. OR 6 eight years of experience within research administration and grants management.

  • Strong communication and organization skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.

  • Must have solid judgment and capacity to exercise discretion to resolve ambiguity and promote effective solutions.

  • Must have a strong commitment to constructively contribute to a customer service environment, providing professional, timely, efficient, and courteous service to the university research community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.

  • 3 or more years of relevant research administration and grants management experience

  • Experience with the use of Grants.Gov, NSF Fastlane / Research.gov, NIH eRA Commons / ASSIST.

  • Experience in contract administration and negotiation.

Senior Level Minimum Qualifications Pay range $40.02- $63.03

  • Extensive professional experience within research administration and grants management.

  • Strong communication and organization skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.

  • Must have solid judgment and capacity to exercise discretion to resolve ambiguity and promote effective solutions.

  • Must have a strong commitment to constructively contribute to a customer service environment, providing professional, timely, efficient, and courteous service to the university research community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited institution. Education will be verified.

  • Experience with the use of Grants.Gov, NSF Fastlane / Research.gov, NIH eRA Commons / ASSIST

  • Experience with federal and non-federal grant submission review, subaward monitoring and agreements, post-award non-financial monitoring.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.

  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate supplies and equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$40.02 - $63.03
