Role Overview
Lumen is seeking an experienced VDI and Virtualization Engineer to manage, maintain, and implement Virtualized Desktop and Applications within our internal Citrix Xendesk/XenApp and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments. Support existing VDI infrastructure for large size internal deployment and transition services from on-premises hosting to the cloud, with a focus on enhancing user experience, optimizing costs, and implementing new automations to improve the delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Accountable for Citrix infrastructure, including XenApp, XenDesktop, and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments and infrastructure. Including maintenance, patching, tuning, health checks, capacity planning, and overall performance of the virtual desktop systems.
Implement and maintain security measures to protect Citrix and AVD environments. Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies and industry standards.
Responsible for the implementation of new systems, upgrades, migrations, and modifications, including thorough planning, testing, coordinating, and scheduling for clients.
Provide incident response and problem management, including identifying the root cause of system problems and addressing configuration issues that result in operational performance degradation or system outages.
Monitor system performance and implement necessary adjustments to optimize performance. Use monitoring tools to proactively identify and address potential issues.
Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in matters pertaining to Virtualization of desktops and applications, regarding the respective technologies hosted or supported, capable of architecting and designing the respective technologies' architecture.
Develop and maintain documentation for infrastructure processes and configurations.
Provide technical support and training to end-users and other IT staff.
Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support for critical incidents/outages.
Required Expertise and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience.
5+ years of Citrix and AVD Infrastructure Experience: Proficient in Citrix and AVD infrastructure, with experience in deployments in both on-premises and cloud environments.
VDI Support Tools: Experience with VDI support tools such as NERDIO, ControlUp, and Citrix.
Cloud Environments: Skilled in transitioning on-premises virtual infrastructure to cloud environments.
Government/Federal Cloud Tenants: Experience with deployments and management of VDI resources within Government/Federal controlled cloud tenants.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Citrix Certified Associate) are a plus.
Required Government/Federal Contractor Screenings:
General Services Administration (GSA) required for job scope - existing GSA determination done or willingness to pursue.
Candidates must be willing to complete any necessary government-required background screenings to support and gain access to federal tenants and environments. This may include additional US Government/Federal screenings in the future.
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges:
$82,969 - $110,625 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$87,117 - $116,156 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$91,266 - $121,688 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
