Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$89,400.00 - $147,400.00

What Is the Opportunity?

The Travelers Global Technology Services organization is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Technology Engineer to support the software infrastructure and automation tools for our enterprise Big Data infrastructure platforms. The ideal candidate will understand of ETL software development and strong knowledge of data quality dimensions and how to apply them using industry leading tools. A basic understanding of databases, data ingestion frameworks, data manipulation, and data flow principles and best practices, and a desire to learn new data quality solutions, as well as the analytic, organizational, and communication skills necessary to be an effective technical leader in a visible role. The Senior Technology Engineer will work both proactively and responsively to ensure business application platforms are highly available and performing within agreed on service levels.

What Will You Do?

  • Experience working in Agile delivery methodologies with product management or product owner experience.

  • Must be a team player and able to work collaboratively with both on shore and offshore team members.

  • Candidate should be able to manage moderately complex efforts that require extensive integration and collaboration across functional units of the enterprise.

  • The ideal candidate must be a self-starter and inquisitive with the ability to navigate across diverse teams and skill sets.

  • Plan, schedule and document upgrades, patches and maintenance to the Enterprise system within the bounds of existing change processes.

  • Responsible for triaging, diagnosing, and escalation of issues/inquiries to vendors arising during platform engineering and daily operational activities.

  • Help design, document, and implement administrative procedures for the Data Quality platforms.

  • Build, leverage, and maintain effective relationships across technical and business community.

  • Participate in 24x7 production support rotation and provide off-hours support as required.

  • Act as a point of contact with our vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues as required.

  • Research, analyze, and evaluate potential software products for use in the Data Quality infrastructure platforms.

  • Provide IT and business partners consultation on using the Data Quality platforms effectively.

  • Follow all enterprise change management and project management processes.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Understanding of supporting technologies such as Jenkins, Urban Code Deploy, Nexus, Git, etc.

  • Basic knowledge and experience with the Linux OS and with Linux shell scripting.

  • Basic knowledge of database fundamentals and experience working with one or more DBMS platforms such as Teradata, SQL Server, or Oracle from an interaction perspective

  • Basic knowledge of Python, Ruby, Scala would be considered a plus.

  • Familiarity with Micro Service Architecture and Containerized Application Development would be considered a plus.

  • Basic knowledge of the agile development methodology concepts and best practices would be considered a plus.

  • Understanding of AWS cloud technologies, a plus.

What is a Must Have?

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience, required.

  • Three years of experience in Technology required.
