St. Peters Health Support Teacher - Petes Place in Helena, Montana

Shift Time: Morning Opener

JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): This position helps relieve teachers by providing supervision in all Infant, Toddlers and Preschool Classrooms including additional duties based off the needs of the center. Under general supervision and according to specific procedures, this position relieves teachers from their classrooms for absent teachers, breaks/lunch breaks, prep time, and sanitizing classrooms. Other duties will apply throughout the week to meet the center’s needs. Must be flexible in daily route changes. While covering for the teachers you are to maintain classroom activities, assisting in the maintenance of a safe, healthy and stimulating classroom environment, providing constant supervision of children at all times. Maintains sensitivity to children’s individuality and responds to those needs appropriately and quickly by guiding the behavior of children in positive and effective ways. Maintains the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times. This position encourages experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, and socialization to promote further learning and thinking. Assists and helps the teachers prepare the classroom environment and materials to support developmentally appropriate curriculum plans and learning experiences. Helps in assessing individual and group needs, attending to specific interests, strengths and concerns. Coordinates with teachers when indicated to develop a collaborative approach that benefits all children in classrooms. As a mandatory reporter you must report any form of abuse or neglect. Attends and participates in trainings and appropriate professional development activities. Attends and participates in meetings. Engages in ongoing self-assessment and peer-assessments about job performance. Helps and assists with cleaning and sanitizing duties. Follows State Licensing Regulation, Health Department and Fire Marshal Standards, CACFP requirements and STARS to Quality Standards for our current Level.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of principles of childhood growth and development required. Demonstrated ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities and adapt to the individual needs of children required. Demonstrated decision and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to understand the classrooms routine when it comes to delivering a lesson plan and running the class in the event that the teacher is absent on any particular day. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, families and community resources. Demonstrated ability to maintain respectful relations and communication with staff, families, children and community. Demonstrates the ability to supervise children and ensure a safe environment. Demonstrated ability to respond to events happening at all times in classrooms, and outdoor play areas. Demonstrated ability to follow the classroom tasks throughout the day. Ability to receive oversight and guidance from teachers, administration, directors.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or HiSET preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: American Heart Association: Heart Saver CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required to be completed in first 30 days of employment and to be kept current thereafter. Current on the Montana Early Childhood Project: Practitioner Registry within 15 days of hire required. Infant Safety Essentials within 30 days and Early Childhood Essentials, New Staff Health and Safety Orientation, and Together We Grow within 90 days of hire required. Complete mandatory 16-hour annual training and keep current all St. Peter’s Health and State Childcare Licensing required immunizations required.

Aptitudes: Demonstrates ability to handle multiples tasks and stressors effectively and efficiently. Demonstrates genuine interest and enjoyment of small children and the ability to stay calm in all situations and to respond to children in a quiet, reassuring manner. Demonstrates ability to exercise good judgement and critical thinking skills to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
