State of Montana Water Quality Permit Writer in Helena, Montana

We are currently looking for a Water Quality Permitting Scientist with a specialization ingroundwaterto join our team in the Water Protection Bureau of the Water Quality Division. Water Quality Permitting Scientistsare responsible for performing scientific and technical analyses, calculations, assessments, and determinations essential to the implementation of water quality programs in the State of Montana. ThisGroundwaterWater Quality Permitting Scientist willbe responsible forwriting individual groundwater permits for facilities discharging both domestic and industrial wastewaters in Montana as well as otherpermitwriting and administrativedutiesas necessary. When a municipality, industry, or other entity wishes to discharge water tostategroundwater, that entity must first obtain a permit from DEQ. Montana Groundwater Pollution ControlSystem  (MGWPCS) permits regulate wastewater discharges by limiting the quantities of pollutants to be discharged. The limits and requirements in the permit help ensure compliance with Montana's Water Quality Standards, State and Federal Regulations, andmaintainthe designated beneficial uses of the receiving groundwater. DEQ develops the limits and requirements for a given permit based on a facility's operations, type and amount of discharge, and the nature of the receiving groundwater, among other factors. Individual permits are tailored to each facility andtake into accountthe type and volume of wastewater discharged, the location of the discharge, and the nature of the receiving groundwater. Examples of permitted facilities include municipal sewage treatment facilities, housing developments with their own sewage treatment infrastructure, and industrial facilities needing to discharge certain types of waste.   The minimum qualifications for this position include: * Bachelor’s degree in physical, earth, or life sciences. * Two years ofdirectly relatedexperience. The successful candidate willhave a solid background in groundwater hydrology andbring the following combination of skills and experience: Experience:   * analyzing and interpreting environmental data  * reviewing and implementing state and federal statutes, rules, and policies  * reviewing specifications and processes at public works and industrial facilities  * writing technical documents for a general audience   * acting as an effective liaison between diverse stakeholders    Title: Water Quality Permit Writer Location: Helena Requisition ID: 25140540
