CITY OF KALISPELLAN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYERJOB DESCRIPTIONClass Title:Assistant Aquatics Coordinator - Programs (Seasonal Position Only)Department: Parks and Recreation DepartmentLocation:Woodland Water ParkUnion:Non-UnionFSLA:Non-ExemptSalary:$ 19.80 per hour, effective July 1, 2025 wage will increase to $20.05 per hourDate:March 19, 2025 I.GENERAL CLASS DESCRIPTION:Assists the Recreation Programmer with the administrative, supervisory, programming functions, special events, for an aquatic facility, under the direct supervision of the Recreation Programmer.II.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Generala.Employee is expected to be on time and fully prepared every day they are scheduled to work. We expect every employee to strive for perfect attendance.b.Work assignments are made both orally and in writing. Work is performed with considerable independence in judgment and decision making within established policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, periodic reports and by the results obtained. c.The following duties are typical for this classification. These are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Aquatic Facility Supervision (90%)a.Manage and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.b.Coordinates staff in the development and implementation of aquatics programs and special events. Directs the patrolling of the pool and the enforcement of safety rules and regulations.c.Supervises classes, workshops and activities for persons engaged in aquatics programs and co-sponsored programs.d.Coordinates special aquatics programs, registers participants and collects fees.e.Promotes interest and provides information regarding aquatic programs to school officials, other recreation officials, community service groups, other departments, and the general public.f.Coordinates schedules and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel at the aquatics facility.g.Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs.h.Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions.i.Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises.j.Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facility as needed.k.Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.l.Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within the budget; performs cost control activities; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, and materials.m.Keeps records of work completed.n.Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, conducting classes, collecting fees, setting up events, making arrangements for pool rental, and ordering various pool supplies.Peripheral Duties (10%)a.Assists with programming and classes as needed.b.Assists in the maintenance of the aquatic facility.c.Various other duties as assigned.III.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Programmer and the Recreation Superintendent.IV.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Supervises short term aquatic staff, lifeguards, swim instructors, and maintenance staff as assigned.V.DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience): a.Graduation from high school, GED or equivalent, andb.CPR and First Aid certification through American Red Cross or the ability to obtain prior to start of the season.c.Lifeguarding through American Red Cross or the ability to obtain prior to start of season.d.Two years aquatic experience including aquatics programming or an equivalent combination of education and experience to satisfactorily manage the aquatic facility.VI.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:a.Knowledge of aquatic facilities and programs.b.Ability to develop, coordinate and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program.c.Skilled in the operation of computers, pointe of sale systems, and cash handling procedures.d.Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. e.Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. f.Ability to communicate orally and in writing.g.Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.h.Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.i.Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.VII.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:a.Must have a valid Class D Driver’s license upon date of hire. b.CPR and First Aid certification through American Red Cross or the ability to obtain prior to start of season. A certification course will be offered through Kalispell Parks and Recreation prior to the start of the season. c.Lifeguarding through American Red Cross or the ability to obtain prior to start of season. A certification course will be offered through Kalispell Parks and Recreation prior to the start of the season.VIII.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:Computer, Microsoft Office, calculator, copy and fax machine, phone; two-way radios, automobile, hand tools, AED, pool pumps and pool vacuum. Morning, night, and weekend work will be required.
