Immanuel Lutheran Communities Assisted Living Shift Supervisor - CNA or Licensed Nurse in Kalispell, Montana

Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to perform or oversee resident performance of personal care or assist residents to perform personal care, including dining services, in accordance with Facility policies and procedures. This position assists the AL Nurse Coordinator and AL Director with administrative duties. This position is the shift supervisor on the floor during evening shifts and potential on call. This position also oversees and coaches Personal Care Attendants (PCAs) and CNA's when supervisor is unavailable.

Policies and Procedures

  • Maintain confidentiality of residents, resident family members, coworkers, and Immanuel Lutheran Communities

  • Understand and support the philosophy, policies, and standards of Immanuel Lutheran Communities and the Assisted Living Department

  • Maintain quality of resident care, including compliance with Facility and Assisted Living Department policies and procedures, and State and Federal guidelines

  • Follow facility and department policies and procedures

    Position Duties

    Resident Care

  • Accurately and safely perform resident care in accordance with residents’ care plan, resident Assignment Sheet and worksheets, and nurses’ instructions

  • Answer call lights in a timely manner

  • Pick up and maintain resident rooms in a neat and orderly condition

  • Assist residents to and from meals, meetings, and activities, as needed

  • Straighten and maintain department rooms and equipment storage areas in a neat and orderly condition

  • Potential on-calls as needed

    Documentation and Communication

  • Accurately record resident care on Resident Assignment Sheet

  • Chart Audits and Medication turnovers

  • Conduct Care Plans, MD orders, and Mar checks

  • Report discrepancies, refusals, and misses.

  • Inform Assisted Living Nurse Coordinator or Medication Nurse of improvement or decline in resident condition on a timely basis

  • At the end of assigned shift, give report to the incoming shift

  • Answer department telephone

  • Communicate with supervisor and participate in training and/or meetings that help facilitate departmental communication process

  • Communicate with others in a considerate manner

    Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • May cross-train to the duties of Night Security, if needed

  • Ensure maintenance of a safe living and working environment for residents and staff

  • Function effectively as a team member; assist other team members with concern and direct them to the appropriate resource

  • Maintain good working relationships among staff

  • Maintain understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with residents, resident families, and coworkers

  • Maintain regular work attendance and follow established work schedule. Hours and days of the week must be flexible to meet scheduling requirements.

Requirements

Professional Licenses or Certifications Required by Law, Rule, or Regulation for Performing this Position

  • Current Montana Certified Nurses Assistant certification

  • Completed Montana CNA Skills Checklist

  • Completion of six month and annual CNA Skills Evaluation

  • Completion of 24 continuing education credits in 2-year period of certification

  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications

    Essential Physical, mental, and Emotional Requirements

  • The employee must be at least 18 years of age, as position operates potentially hazardous equipment.

  • The employee must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and be able to work under time and/or deadline pressures.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand at least 90% of the shift; use hands to finger; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, squat, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.

  • The employee must frequently lift up to 10 pounds, rarely lift up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift up to 40 pounds, but rarely lift more than 40 pounds.

  • The employee must occasionally reach above shoulder height, frequently reach from chest to shoulder, frequently reach from waist to chest, and frequently reach below waist level.

  • The employee must occasionally carry up to 12 pounds but rarely carry up to 20 pounds.

  • The employee must frequently push / pull up to 20 pounds, and frequently push up to 40 pounds but rarely push over 40 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required of this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    Education and Experience

  • Graduation from high school or GED preferred.

  • With current Montana CNA certification, must be in good standing to work as a CNA in Montana OR

  • Have a current CNA certification in another state AND be in the process of acquiring Montana certification within 30 days of transferring OR

  • Have successfully completed CNA certification training class and be waiting for a certification letter from the Montana Licensure Bureau.
