Logan Health Communication Center Dispatcher in Kalispell, Montana

Job Description Summary:

This position answers incoming calls, prioritizes, and dispatches appropriately. Monitors and operates security infrastructure to include; closed circuit camera systems, alarm panels, radios, mass communication, and flight following systems. Is responsible for the creation and maintenance of computer-aided dispatch records for different entities within the organization. Coordinates available resources to improve response to routine and emergency calls.

Qualifications:

  • Computer proficiency as evidenced by pre-employment CritiCall Public-Safety Dispatcher Pre-Employment Testing, to include typing, general medical terminology, ten-key data entry and proof reading required.

  • Previous experience in healthcare, fire, EMS, or law enforcement dispatching preferred.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service and meeting quality standards. Possess an understanding of the confidentiality laws that govern the provider-patient relationship, including but not limited to HIPAA guidelines.

  • Must be able to manage fast paced and stressful work environment to include managing hospital response to critical code calls. Must be able to multi-task and manage multiple inputs on critical calls.

  • Experience working with multifaceted technologies, i.e. telephones, computers, and sophisticated computer programs. Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Answers priority line calls and initiates response for all incoming code events, alarm activations, etc. Obtains complete information necessary to determine urgency and need for dispatching security, maintenance and/or medical response.

  • Monitors and notifies responding medical personnel after activation of Telehealth program protocol. Provides instant communication for internal Stroke Response agencies and prioritizes activation procedures.

  • Dispatches the ALERT flight teams, secures ground transportation as necessary, monitors’ flight schedule and following software, dispatches assets for the ALERT program advanced aero medical team, and notifies other providers as needed.

  • Utilizes complex technology systems including, but not limited to: Amcom phone and on call system, record management system, service requester, Meditech, vehicle registration database, physician on-call software, paging systems, OB systems, alarm systems, Emergency Notification System and multiple camera systems.

  • Assures compliance with emergency procedures and notifications per department protocol.

  • Continuously monitors the security and maintenance radio channels, alarm panels, surveillance cameras, and electronic security systems.

  • Answers, evaluates and prioritizes incoming calls seeking assistance. Utilizes a computer-aided system, telephones, numerous computer databases, and maps to communicate effectively with various callers.

  • Communicates professionally with appropriate stakeholders to obtain and disseminate information per department protocol.

  • Identifies areas of concern and makes strategic recommendations for improvements to assigned leadership.

  • Assures compliance for entry and modification of on call schedules for associated departments and clinics.

Please know schedules and shifts are subject to change based on patient care and department/organizational needs.

Schedule:

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Must be willing to work varied shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to keep the department staffed appropriately. Rotation of on call availability with other staff may be required.
