Kalispell Regional Healthcare Department Technical Coordinator - Laboratory Blood Bank in Kalispell, Montana

Overview

The Department Technical Coordinator oversees day-to-day operations of laboratory department. Performs laboratory procedures using a variety of technologies while ensuring accurate and timely test results.

Responsibilities

  1. *Oversees test menus, validations, linearity’s, calibrations, QC and more. Performs and monitors quality control procedures, addresses quality control problems and takes remedial actions. Oversees, assigns, and documents Proficiency Testing.

  2. *Coordinates day to day operations of department. Serves as lead trouble shooter for department when issues arise. Escalates to Lab Supervisor accordingly. May provide input and work with Lab Supervisor regarding personnel issues, performance problems and corrective actions.

  3. *Orders supplies.

    • Maintains professionalism with all staff, while contributing to a positive work culture. Communicates regularly with leadership and department staff.
  4. *Works with Lab Supervisors to provide and oversee training and orientation of new staff and/or students.

  5. *Performs clinical patient testing in a timely manner. Stays current with all procedures. Evaluates specimen integrity, identification and instrumentation performance. Provides input to Lab Supervisor regarding changes and/or improvements in lab policies and procedures.

  6. *Performs accreditation related tasks, such as CAP competencies and proficiency testing.

  7. *Participates in Quality Control and Quality Management, Performance Improvement activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting of results.

  8. *Calls and documents Critical Values according to lab policy.

  9. *Assists Lab Supervisor with duties as requested.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related science (i.e. Biology, Microbiology, etc.) required.

  2. Completion of an accredited ASCP Medical Technology intern training program or equivalent (i.e. AMT, ABB).

  3. Montana State license as Clinical Lab Scientist required.

  4. Minimum of three (3) year’s working experience in a clinical lab setting.

  5. Previous leadership experience preferred.

  6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required.
