Electronic Engineering Technician 3
Flux is currently seeking an Electronic Engineering Technician 3 to provide technical support to our client organization.
This part-time (up to 30 hours per week) contract position will provide technical support to the Communication Test and Energization (TETD) group within the Commissioning and Testing Services (TET) organization. TETD is responsible for testing and energizing all new and modified facilities in all the high voltage substations, radio stations and control centers in our client's system. This Electronic Engineering Technician position will facilitate field installation testing, analysis, and final test reports in support of Project Management and Telecommunications Design for radio and fiber optic field installations projects, including schedule support, quality acceptance, conformance with project schedules, and coordination of work with engineers, other technicians and craftsman, lineman and contractors. Official duty station will be in Kalispell, MT, but may involve up to 25% travel to various field locations across the service area.
Position Responsibilities \[What You'll Do\]
Provide technical advice and recommendations to Test and Energization (T&E) construction, operations and maintenance, and Project Management personnel, as well as design engineers and field System Protection Control (SPC) and Power System Control (PSC) staff.
Provide technical support for testing and test documentation in the field.
Review engineering designs to maintain conformance to existing policies and standards for installation of communications and fiber optic systems.
Prepare accurate as built drawings for communications and fiber optic systems for review and approval by manager/lead engineer.
Prepare fiber optic system test summary reports for maintenance personnel for review and approval by manager/lead engineer.
With oversight from manager/staff, coordinate the overall system acceptance testing of the Fiber Optic installations for the T&E Group during all aspects of the construction activities from planning, project management, to construction management, through energization, which includes facilitating communication and scheduling of fiber optic splicing, and crews associated with substation and line projects, internal electrical crews or contract electrical crews.
Perform analysis of final fiber installations to be released for operational traffic and brief the emergency restoration coordinator regarding any and all pertinent data for the restoration plan.
Perform fiber Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) testing of fiber optic reels.
Perform fiber OTDR testing and fiber characterization testing of fiber optic plant installations to verify installations meet specifications.
Prepare various progress and status reports, test equipment requests and work-vehicle requirements for review and approval by manager/lead engineer.
Implement changes of circuitry or components with guidance from senior engineer or technician in order that systems may be made operative.
With oversight from manager/lead engineer, perform acceptance and performance testing of communications, telemetry, and other electronic systems throughout the service area as follows:
FM radios with frequencies up to 1,000 megahertz including fixed, mobile and portable systems used for voice, digital control and telemetry
Microwave systems with frequencies above 1,000 megahertz including terminals and repeaters with high and low density multiplex
High and ultrahigh speed tone equipment from transfer trip relay systems
Sequential Event Recorders and Annunciator systems a substations and control centers
With oversight from manager/lead engineer, acceptance and performance testing of digital computer control systems for power circuit breaker control, switchyard alarm supervision and telemetry throughout the service area, including:
Auxiliary and standby power supply systems including batteries, chargers, generators with their associated controls and enclosures
Digital and analog telemetry systems for automatic generation controls
Miscellaneous systems including fault locators, telephones, public address and intercoms
Position Requirements \[Who You Are\]
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in engineering technology, mathematics, computer science, engineering technician, or related field is preferred.
With an applicable Bachelor's Degree, 10 years of experience in a technical/engineering environment is required.
With an applicable Associate's Degree, 12 years of experience in a technical/engineering environment is required.
Without a degree, 14 years of experience in a technical/engineering environment is required
Required Skills & Experience:
8 - 10 years of directly related practical work experience performing fiber characterization or OTDR testing and reporting test results.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel and Word). MS Office 2010 proficiency required.
